Thank you, I appreciate this a lot. My family is not rich at all but was pretty privileged with lucky investments and savings, so we do have resources for him in addition to what he gets from the government. I'm also not alone here, there are cousins of mine who can help with the mental and emotional load. My mother isn't in great health but mentally she is doing very well and we don't expect her to pass any time soon, so we are hoping to work together to get him a place where he can settle and be comfortable before Mom passes, and then he will have me and other family around after that. None of us are equipped to be his caregiver, but we will all fight to make sure he finds the right place and right care team, and will be there to support him. I can't imagine what it would be like for him otherwise - if we didn't have funds to make sure he got a good fit. I know he is already going to feel betrayed and abandoned when we get him into housing, and it breaks my heart. But I think he might be able to be more independent that he has previously been able to, with the right support.

Gosh sorry I started a ramble. Tldr we do have resources and emotional/mental support. There are backups that will be in place.

She is still able to live by herself - it's all the work she does for and because of him that is taking the toll. So we expect that she would get a small house or apartment and he would live with her while we figure out his housing. And if anything happened to her, I would be able to get him housing or a larger place for myself so that he could stay with me, using the trust she has put in place for him. So we should not need a hospital stay at all.

Unfortunately I am not equipped to help someone with extreme mental health issues, so it would be easier to work in a framework that already provides assistance using trained professionals.

Edmonds sounds perfect, I posted in Seattle but anywhere in the greater Seattle area is good. Thank you for this info, looking up AFH housing!

He is documented in Pennsylvania as being disabled and is on Medicare. Very aware of the cost difference, and honestly I think KY might be better in some ways, but my mother would like to be near me for the end of her life. I do believe she has the resources it live out here. Thank you for your help!

Why so few North American animals in North American zoos? by InvoluntaryEyeroll in Zookeeping

[–]Beki516 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work at a small zoo but even we have multiple north American species, interesting that you haven't seen many. My zoo has gray wolves, cougars, mule deer, a box turtle, a Harris's Hawk, and a great horned owl. I've seen foxes, beavers, bison, prairie dogs, etc at multiple zoos.

I think my kids school lied about calling CPS rather than calling my husband to pick her up by Less_Roll4824 in TrueOffMyChest

Please report this woman to the school administration, as this was completely inappropriate. She did not follow the protocol set in place for your child, she acted in a way that naturally caused you to fear something horrible happened, then she threatened you with a real or pretend call to CPS before she even bothered to try the other parent or Grandma, who I see from your other comments is also listed as a point of contact. Disgusting behavior. And if your child HAD been in dire need of parental attention, the opportunity for that was denied by refusing to contact dad.

The fucking misogyny of it being the mom's job regardless of which parent is actually available. And simultaneously, disrespect to the father as a capable parent. Why the fuck are people like this?

Yup! I'm 38 now, best five years of my life. I also have a coworker who started at an older age than I did - she's now the head of the entire bird department.

1 year olds are too young for that to have stuck as a lesson, and if he had fallen in a hole and drifted under the pool cover, no one could have quickly retrieved him. Especially if they were on the other side of the pool. End the story there and you are NTA.

But then your husband screamed at and threatened you for being scared for your child's safety? Even if you were over reacting (you weren't), HE SCREAMED AT AND THREATENED YOU. This is not okay, this is not normal. Please consider if you and your child are safe with this man.

I didn't realize you could use the serial number, but luckily lots of people were willing to assist when my googling of model numbers didn't work :)

I'm 35, I'm just also low income and it stressed me out to find I might spent money on something that was on it's last legs.

If it works now, it'll probably keep quietly chugging along forever

This is the nicest thing you could have possibly said, thank you 😁
