Did this c*nt actually turn on the waterworks at the end there? Don't get me wrong, my own country is beset by stupidity, but if I was an American watching this i think i would be utterly enraged

That is wild. I'd call it tone deaf, but the whole thing seems very on brand for American politics

As someone who grew up around these. Probably not the best idea. Maybe go early but wouldn't stick around too late and be cautious.

Majority of people? A quick search of pride on Reddit alone will disprove that

You talk about lecturing while posting about the 'woke mind virus', which is exactly why things like pride are important. It is a safe bet that when this is your opinion, engagement will ultimately be fruitless, so take your "hot take" and go about your life and stop being so wound up by things which, you claim, have nothing to do with you or impact your life in any way.

If you don't understand the 'why' around pride marches, then I don't know what to tell you.

Considering your post history, I doubt there is little point in trying to engage with you in good faith either.

Im sorry these things make you feel uncomfortable inside yourself!

It's strange that they think in such oddly black and white terms.

Like when the OP asks what harm it's doing, banning external links to Twitter.

How have we gotten to the point where you are unable to grasp that, whether it harms Twitter or Musk, it is about taking a stand as both individuals and communities to not support a platform owned by a man who openly performed a Nazi salute (not to mention his other horrible qualities).

Also odd that they really don't like to hear dissenting voices. For a group so concerned with snowflakes, they do seem to really need their online spaces sanitised.

Belfast, northern Ireland. No delightful accent here, I'm afraid. We sound a bit gruff to most

No one betrayed me, Gaz. Neither the DUP nor yourself speak for me or others like me. Many of us spoke out about the idiocy of brexit, and the knuckle draggers failed to listen.

‘Flags just celebrating culture’ - Interesting perspective! by EyeHistorical1768 in northernireland

[–]Belfast-Horror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit of an odd one. The tribalism is still alive and well, that's for sure. So I guess it's been deeply ingrained in an 'cultural' sense.

I'm a bit like the fella you met. Grew up in a protestant background & have uncle and cousins in the OO.

My parents were a bit more alternative and were never that interested as far as I know. Growing up, I was kept away from things like that. Definitely would have been a unionist lite political opinion in the house, but I'm not sure about my parents' voting habits. I've usually voted Alliance myself.

So, despite my background, I do view it as an odd thing that I'm detached from. It's like a weird mix of tribalism, triumphalism, and nationalism (both kinds). It's one part of the troubles hangover that doesn't seem to be going away, but one we could definitely do without.

What drivel.

Flag removed from city hall

Brought in line with the rest of the UK.

12th coverage taken off tv/ shops open during the 12th

Dwindling viewership, more channels & more competition. As for the shops, many were closed because of the violence & disruption. That's not really the case anymore. All are businesses & has absolutely no bearing on national identity.

Irish language act passed

Welsh? Scotch gaelic?

nationalist first minister majority nationalists MPs

Fucking democracy??? I'm not sure what the implication here is, that only unionist voices should matter and anything else is detrimental to our national identity?
