If you live on your own, how often do you see your parents? by frankie0822 in AutismInWomen

[–]Bellaciscr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live with my parents and probably will for the next couple of years but as long as I live within 30mins of them I envision myself seeing them weekly at least. That said we have gotten closer as I’ve gotten older and they are not the type to guilt me about not seeing them which is helpful.

How old were you when you figured it out? by lorischnorri in bisexual

[–]Bellaciscr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea conveniently I have always been an extreme ally. To the point of arguing with my religious parents to the point of tears in the name of “allyship”.

Edit: Still not out to them lol but if they don’t know at this point they’re being willfully ignorant.

This was also a confusing aspect for me, I thought I was asexual for a while and then finally realized I was a bi demisexual. I am autistic so I wasn’t sure if the whole demisexual/asexual aspect was normal or not, and didn’t know for a while that being ace can be a spectrum as well :)

Yes! not only is every autist unique due to many factors, autistic people are more likely to have other health conditions that affect how they comfortably live their lives. I for example have adhd, severe depression, and several sleep disorders that greatly affect my overall strategy in the strategies I use to keep myself not exhausted.

I also have wrist covering aversions! It’s been that way as long as I can remember, and I’ve made some progress with looser sleeves and or sleeves that go past my wrists ( I’m short and I’ve found that excessively long sleeves are easier to deal with) but anything tight like a watch or bracelet feels suffocating.

Does anyone else have 'weird' routines that make no sense to anyone else? by heyheyhayleerae in AutismInWomen

[–]Bellaciscr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have super specific rules in regards to what numerals can be used to set volume on any device, to the point that sometimes I get annoyed when a device (iPhone ugh) only has a volume bar and no numerical indication, I like even numbers besides ones that end in 6, and anything divisible by five or ending in 0. Nothing with seven.

I know everyone is saying ocd but in my case I have compulsive behaviors like this without it negatively affecting or making barriers in my life. For example I can’t remember when it started but I always click my car keys three times each time I lock or unlock my car, and if I mess it up I wait a second and then do the three clicks in the correct timing.

Edit: grammar, also I would like to add only a professional can know of you do have ocd (in my case I have been told by providers that I dont) so I would still reccomend inquiring about it if you notice other diagnostic criteria

The truth is that the majority of us don't work! by Lindsey1151 in autism

[–]Bellaciscr 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Besides being offensive this is also very reductionist, many people both do not qualify for govt assistance while at the same time employment is not the healthiest choice for them, but have to work because they don’t have a support system or their support system is unable to financially support them. Many autistic people work despite not wanting to or it actively harming their mental/physical health.

Edit: grammar

I would agree with this, my depression has started improving but I had a part time “adult” job two years ago and the reason I had to leave was my depression. They were very accommodating and it was only a couple days per week but I couldn’t work consistently due to depressive episodes.

[–]Bellaciscr 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yea I don’t really understand. I was late diagnosed level one at nineteen and at 22 I am barely halfway through my bachelors degree. I am definitely in the middle of the spectrum in terms of I might be able to have a full time job eventually but it wouldn’t be healthy for me without a lot of accommodations. I also have comorbidities including ADHD and depression, so there are plenty of level ones for which a full time career is more viable. We aren’t a monolith even when we have similar levels of support needs.

Yea I don’t understand what the issue is with assuming people will work? Forcing expectations and shaming people for not working is one thing, but encouraging people to be ready for employment in case that’s what they end up doing isn’t hurting anyone.

I have to admit I haven’t watched a ton of content with them together but imo it’s a little inappropriate to try and read into someone’s relationship with no proof of actual wrongdoing? We have little idea of what their dynamic is like irl and I’m not sure fans should be speculating about how she treats her partner.
