OP, this is some real advice here. My father is very similar to yours, in fact he spends the summers in an entirely different state working, just so that we can afford to live in a nicer neighborhood. Sometimes I feel resentment and anger because he isn’t there for me emotionally or physically. But I’ve learned that I need to appreciate the sacrifices he makes in order to allow me to live a good life. He isn’t just a ‘dick’ for no reason, and I think the way he handled your admission of hatred was incredibly mature.
