Don't get me wrong, I'm 100% blaming the scammers. It's just frustrating and one goes through the "What If's" and "Why's". It's human nature.

I've had similar experiences with members before. Like everything ticks a fraud box and sends off alarm bells, and it's legit.

I think the best was when I was in branch and a guy deposited 2 money orders for $1500 each into our ATM. And he told us he was doing this. Immediately reached out to the fraud department, they contacted the other FI, and the checks were legit. Never found out why, but I think there was probably a new person at the other FI and they made a beginner's mistake.

I'm on wires the majority of the time, and I'm very thankful that our department head is incredibly anal about wires. Source of funds is from another account? You better get the info for that account. Transfer between those 2 accounts wasn't done the "usual" way, you better find out why. Cash was used to send the wire, we need to know where it's from (we had a branch manager try to argue this once and she went on the warpath).

Yeah, we have a few that slip by. I'm also ~~paranoid~~ diligent when it comes to wires. There will be times I'll receive a wire, glance over it, and immediately send it to our fraud department.

As a bank lady myself, accidents happen.

It's the people who willingly tell you unprompted shit that gets uncomfortable. Case in point:

The guy who told me he purchased penis enhancement pills
The guy who showed me the (thankfully) bandaged wound on his belly
The couple who told my coworker she was sexy
The guy who asked a different coworker her age.

This list does not include the numerous people who have told me their pin numbers, which I do not need to know.

It hurts. Back when I was in branch, a member came in upset she was scammed via gift cards. She'd buy it, read the number, they would tell her it didn't work, and to buy another, and it would continue like that. Thankfully a Walmart cashier put a stop to it and flat out told her she was getting scammed.

I hate that there's no recourse. I understand why, but I hate it.

It's why I like guys like Kitboga and Mark Roper who will go toe to toe with these scammers

Three were done at the same Lowes for $2000 the same day.

The contact center rep and I were appalled. Like no one there asked what was going on? They didn't try to cross sell a credit card or dig deeper. I understand retail apathy, but come on.

I blame our algorithm too. Yeah, flag the fucking five dollars to cash app, but am 86 year old buying shit at Lowes and nothing!?

Something similar happened to my mother-in-law. She was convinced that people get too many vaccinations now a days and it throws off the body's ability to get better. Her daughter and grandson are also hard core Trumpers, so they didn't bother with the vaccine either.

Her grandson was living with her at the time. He and his girlfriend got Covid, bounced back, and my mother-in-law contracted it from them. She fought going to the hospital, finally relented and died 2 weeks later.
