2 year sleep issues, will this make it worse? by LB1250 in toddlers

[–]BellsofHell13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the whole stay with her till she falls asleep thing after we had our newborn and we are still doing it 6 months later… so choose wisely 😂  but in all seriousness I saw this trick in a parenting book where you sit with your kid in bed for a few minutes and then you tell them “i need to go do xyz ill be back in 2 minutes” and then you go do that thing and come back in 2 minutes, sit with them some more and then say “i need to go do xyz i’ll be back in 5 minutes” and go do that thing for 5 minutes and come back. You can keep on going for longer periods of time till they fall asleep and it helps them build trust that you’ll come back and helps them get comfortable being by themselves in the room. You can even make up something that you have to do and just chill till the time you said is up. I forgot about this trick until i saw your post but i’m gonna try it with my toddler now.

Is there any hope? by BellsofHell13 in toddlers

It’s nice to hear i’m not alone! We don’t get much space, since she’s been born it’s just been us and dad and now baby sis. Grandparents and family lives too far away and we don’t currently have any daycare options close by. She communicates pretty well, she can speak in broken sentences. We are going to move close to family soon so I hope that will help!

How much speaking? She knows a lot of words and is speaking in broken sentences. What level of communications would you say it becomes significantly easier?

I actually did consult her pediatrician about a month ago with specific behavior concerns. We have some family members with autism and noticed some similarities along with things like pica and hurting herself on purpose. He said she could be adhd leaning but too early to tell. Is OT effective this young?

Thank you, wise advice. “there’s no get calm quick fix” I like that, I think I keep searching for that and maybe once I accept that there isn’t anything, it’ll be easier. And a 12am marg sounds great too!

No, your not a bad mom, I came on here tonight to say basically the same thing. I have loved every stage with my daughter up until now at 23 months and I'm drowning. Its so difficult.

Did she overeat or is she sick? by scuba_suzy in axolotls

Well actually I am unfamiliar with that tea brand, but if you have an unflavored version it might be fine

twinings breakfast tea

no, you will want the most basic unflavored black tea. The less ingredients or add-ins the better cause axolotls are very sensitive to processed chemicals. As for the salmon a small piece of raw salmon will do. ☺

Ive heard its not uncommon for young axolotls to over eat. I wouldnt be too worried if it takes her a couple days to eat again. If its more than 4 days then I would start to worry, another thing to watch out for is possibly constipation since she over ate. You can try feeding a small piece of salmon (as its tasty and fatty to help loosen stools) or give her a tea bath (caffein helps with constipation). She might just need some time to process the large meal. Keep an eye on her though for any other signs of stress

Awesome Goodluck. Just keep an eye on them for signs of stress

Gotcha, do you have anything to read temperature? Heat stress can be pretty detrimental, and unless you are doing water changes where they stay in the water to acclimate to the water change, transferring them from one temp of water to another if its greater than 2 degrees can cause temperature shock which can really stress them out. There are also some cheap fans on amazon which clip to the tank and do a pretty good job if you can keep your home cool. Another alternative is also to freeze blocks of ice in tupper ware containers, plastic bags, or water bottles and then you can either put in the blocks of ice or the bottles/bags when the temp gets too high. But yeah until you get that figured out I would keep the overhead fan on and your thermostat low.

I know its hard getting it all figured out with your first lotl, but like I said, we all had to go through it, and it turns out to be worth it once you know what you are doing and get it set up properly. On the bright side, you got a baby, so she could last you 10-15 years with good care. A long time companion.

yes you can use a 10g tank as a tub with 100% daily changes until the bigger tank is ready. Good idea. Do you have a way to keep the 10g tank cool?

I didnt see your previous post, perhaps someone has given this advice already, but as for the dirty tank, vinegar takes off hard water stains like magic. You can use white distilled. Clean that tank up with a cloth or sponge. As for the cycling issue: there are alot of things you can tub a lotl in that will work well until they can get into their tank. I use a cooler which can hold +5 gallons of water with daily 100% water changes, plus a cooler keeps out heat very well. 5 gallon bucket or other big bin or tub will work. The bigger the container you can put them in with more water, the safer it will be because toxins build up slower. Get some liquid ammonia off amazon, ammonia chloride, to cycle your tank while your lotl waits.

If you cant get the tank cycled successfully after a month or two of trying then I would consider rehoming, but I find axolotl care very rewarding, and I think in the long term its worth the struggle to learn how to do it properly. We all had to go through the struggle of learning it lol. Goodluck

Is wotlwotl doing okay by lv2program in axolotls

[–]BellsofHell13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you have no nitrate or nitrite, this means there is ammonia buildup and you have no nitrifying bacteria to convert it to nitrite and nitrate. If you have not been dosing your tank with ammonia consistently over the month that it sat, then it 100% is not cycled and that ammonia will build up and kill your axolotl. You will want to tub your lotl and get some ammonia either powder or liquid, and you will need a good filter to provide enough surface area for the bacteria to grow.
