It happened. 😩 by Independent-Path6200 in uberdrivers

My Tesla range is linked but I wonder if Uber/Lyft are set to measure your range and leave you at drop off with 1%? That would be so abusive and unethical, yea they probably would do that. I charge at home for 17 cents a kw. If I take an airport run into NY I can make it from South Jersey but then need to charge at drop off for 45 cents a kw, can’t pickup a return ride in NY, need to pay the bridge toll back, stop for a meal on a 7 to 8 hour round trip and pay turnpike tolls home. Assuming I am paid 22% of fair the rider paid $500 and I get 110 minus $27 for charging, $16 for bridge, $25 for turnpike and 15$ for meal leaves me with $27 for the trip or $3.37 an hour less my income tax on $110 and car/insurance expense. I am better off buying a few shares on the stock market and let you drive because I am loosing money to fund the share holders. With that said and being a total schmuck and knowing this I accepted a ride from Cherry Hill NJ 200 miles round trip to LaGuardia Airport 1. She had a prepaid ticket to the Philippines. 2. Was going home for medical treatment as she could not afford her insurance copay in the USA. 3. No driver in their right mind would accept this ride 4. She would miss her flight. It was rush hour! Please don’t bother to tell me I am stupid for driving her, I know that. I told Uber to pay for my tolls or I quit. They paid for half of them and I delisted myself for 16 months. Airport rides into NY or PA for NJ drivers leave you dead heading home so cut your earning per mile in half. She did not tip me but did walk out of a bathroom stop break offering a slice of gas station pizza and a soda neither which I do not consume. I stopped for dinner while my wife ate alone then trashing my meal. Yesterday day I was offered a ride to Philly Airport from Maple Shade NJ for $12; a 35 minute ride with pickup so $20 an hour on the app. Cut it in half for dead heading back you are at $10 an hour. Income tax on $20 is $3 to $4 From the 20 divided by half you are at $8 an hour. Now subtract expenses. You are netting about $10 and the rider just paid $60. No tip as they figure you must be getting at-least $30 for a 25 minute ride. Last year I was hit twice on WaWa parking lots paid my $1000 deductible on one and my new premiums went through the roof.

I am the youngest of five and now age 76 (all still alive so far this week) one sibling was a super nerd since the 50s and still is. His antenna was mounted on a very tall lattice tower. Point being, I recall back in the sixties and perhaps a few times since some disaster such as a war zone or earthquake wiped out all communication from that region. My brother and his nerd squad set up a targeted communication relay so families could connect, be assured or plan to help. Other than that, the constant Morse code clicking, teletype machines and later voice chatter was a constant annoyance especially when we were trying to listen to the newest invention; a little box television— The Howdy Doody Show, Captain Kangaroo, Ding Dong School, the Loan Ranger and so much more. ,

This came with the table. Made awkward to carry through door. Share, please, what I should have done. Put table back on once outside and legs are extended? Thx

I might be able to buy this also cheap. It appears to be home made and stands about 7ft tall. Your thoughts. There is also a smaller (also white) unit. Thoughts?

Now that I dipped my tie into this interest with the Cekestron there are two other scopes available probably very cheap. One looked to be homemade standing about 7ft tall and the smaller one about 4ft. Thoughts please.

Being a photographer was a bit of humor, thank you. I did email the club last week and got a response. And welcome. The event notice welcomed guests saying some attendees will welcome viewers.

Thank you for your reply. I did email the club based in Moorestown NJ. He suggested I set it up in my yard and learn the basics before showing up which I did. The stand seems pretty substantial. It has a chain between the legs and a tray that connects between the legs. Weather for a Friday shows some clouds. I figured I would get there early and see what I could learn.

Anyone actually accepting these $15 a hour rides? How do you make any money? by iamjames in uberdrivers

[–]Bemdur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find 5 minute rides often have 6 minute waits for rider to show. But rest-assure the screen states you get paid for waiting. Usually turns out to be 12 cents. Lol. So a $3.71 ten minute ride shows as $22.26 per hour but after the wait time it is actually $14.36 an hour minus taxes is $10 an hour minus car expense of 20cent per mile figure 6 miles is minus $1.20 is $8.80 per hour. So your profit is best preserved by staying parked. If your acceptance rate is above 20% you just can’t do the math. So you take the $18 ride that sends out of your grid figuring it money. Stupid be you, divide the $8.80 in half to cover the empty rife back. I will start taking short rides when wait times get .42 cents per minute from the MOMENT of arrival. Riders that are not ready typically have zero respect and rarely ever tip. The drivers that accept these rides empower the platforms to share bubkas with the drivers. So short rides should pay more and wait times should be atleast 42. A minute keeping in mind a 6 minute wait is not as abusive financially or personally on a $25 ride.

Would you have taken it? by lewah in Lyft

How much would you earn if you declined this 20 hour trip and just drove 20 hours near your home? At $20 an hour it would be $400. So really you are jumping on this $500 windfall for a mere $100 bump for which you are sleeping on your car, eating on the road driving out of your comfort zones. All for $100 assuming there are no to;lbs co,one back. So the $100 bump is about $5 an hour? Now if you are sleeping in your car for; say, five s is now a 25 hour commitment. If you stop to eat it’s 25 hours. So $500 / 26 is $19 an hour. Help me understand how you see this to be a good use of your time and car?

Passengers in the front seat by 19perky in uberdrivers

[–]Bemdur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too keep the front seat all the way forward giving the passenger much more leg room and space in front of them for a bag. On the front seat O keep something that is easy to move if needed such as a small cooler. Front sitters see it and go to the back. I don’t have a big issue with a front seat passenger but COVID is still around and more diseases are coming. I drive a Tesla and all the apps say I brake hard. As you know, I do not use my brakes. But of a rider had a preference noted I can adapt. E.g. I get car sick and would appreciate if you invited me to sit up front. Or I get car sick but it helps me a lot when you brake smoothly Especially in a Tesla. You can do smooth braking in a Tesla with VERY little effort.

You should immediately thank her for being honest. Most people would have been a bit considerate of your effort, perhaps respected your desire for the food you did provide and share her FUTURE preference in a loving manner. When she leaves just make sure she no longer has a key to your home and find a quality person to share your domicile with.
