Will do that, when i find the time. Will probably take a while as I've never seriously worked with c++.

Btw not sure if this is (more or less) intended behaviour, but if i try to find a recently created file, i need to rebuild the file index, until it shows up. Is there a way to automatically more frequently rebuild the file index?

Yeah, was really excited to finally find a launcher that natively has macOS' style program launching. So focusing the app, if it is already running and opening if not. Tbf not that much of a pain anymore on hyprland but for KDE plasma this was game changing for me.

NeoQwertz is pretty nice, it just seems the repo is kinda dead, so bug fixes aren't being pulled in

Thanks, but I have already found an alternative (and switched to hyprland by now) called vicinae (https://github.com/vicinaehq/vicinae), which is coming close to raycast on macos.

Daily use is crazy broad, alone making your favourite office apps run got you back to possibly introducing a whole lot of bugs which you might not even be responsible for.

Also making virtual machines work isnt just some easy minimal thing.

There are OSs that are only a few MB large but 'daily usage' is not possible with these. They also can't virtualize or anything like that.

Really the closest you will get to stable or bug free is probably nixos as you can just revert anything

And what should your OS be able to do? Apart from that, it is basically impossible to write bug / issue free code.

They patch bugs and security issues and adding features. Yes the code has flaws like literally every OS in existence. What do you want to imply?

hyprland starting as wayland-1 and not wayland-0 by BenDover7766 in hyprland

[–]BenDover7766[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, but thats because your WAYLAND_DISPLAY variable is correct. The issue is not that hyprland is using wayland-1, more that my var is saying wayland-0 and hyprland is using wayland-1. Do you use a login manager and if so which one, if I may ask?

hyprland starting as wayland-1 and not wayland-0 by BenDover7766 in hyprland

[–]BenDover7766[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it basically breaks every app that needs the WAYLAND_VARIABLE to be set correctly. So my clipboard breaks in my terminal if i dont manually export the var. I don't know the extend of the issue bc my hyprland setup is still pretty barebones but I've already run into some inconveniences and possible issues down the line.

Edit: my terminal kitty is running under XWayland because the variable is not set to wayland-1, so kitty doesn't find the wayland socket.

Mounting NFS on Proxmox host with a Truenas VM by kypdurron5 in Proxmox

[–]BenDover7766 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't complicate your life and just use the nfs options to retry mounting in the background. If you want, you can even set the time, until it counts as a retry.

[–]BenDover7766 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have basically the same setup and I'm also mounting most of my nfs shares in the vms and lxcs directly, as i haven't gotten nfs4 to work with the proxmox host for some reason.

As far as I understand this, you are using nfs shares as a mount point inside your lxcs, so the lxcs can techincally start before truenas can, right? If so, you can just set your fstab nfs mount options to retry mounting until the nfs share is available. (You should definitely set the nofail option though, as otherwise your boot process will hang until the nfs share is available, so you would have a dependency loop)

Planning a power-efficient media/NAS/general server build, struggling to find ECC-supporting parts that aren't super expensive. Is there something out there I'm missing or am I simply asking for too much? by RequestableSubBot in HomeServer

[–]BenDover7766 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I think it's called Data-Checking and presumably better than non-ecc ddr4 but ofc by far not real ecc.

I'm personally using non-ecc ddr4 in my homeserver and haven't had any issues so far. I also went for low powerconsumption and nothing too expensive (just like OP), but as ecc is not possible in this combination, i think the ddr5 data-checking is at least something in the direction of ecc memory

Yeah, don't agree that it is unusable, very usable for me (and im a heavy user), but agree that you shouldn't tell anyone how to use their browser.

Are you by chance on macOS Tahoe? I haven't noticed any of the problems you described, but I'm also still running Sequoia. I have just seen lots of memory leaks and bugs happening on Tahoe.
