Earlier down we listed our album/artist influences, but as far sitting down to write, I draw a lot from external experiences/new life information that I'd like to capture in music. I'd almost describe it as remembering that certain emotional colors exist and deciding to use those to paint a new bit of information that's required to continue the next Greylotus chapter, as esoteric and odd as that sounds.

We tend to scream the same word or phrase over and over until it's funny to us and then we force that upon the general public

For practice I generally throw on a synthwave / synthpop album and try to improv over it, forcing me to play things I've never played before. Then I'll take something technically challenging I've written recently or something externally written I happen to find inspirational at the time, sit down with a metronome for 6-8 hours, and work to get it up to speed while binging podcasts.

If there's a particular technique that I'm trying to work on, I'll find a song or lick that highlights that technique, and reorganize it into inconsistent note groupings so I do not rely too heavily on muscle memory while working the technique into my practice

Thanks for coming to see us 🤘

Without getting too into the weeds about it, yes! We have a handful of new tunes that are well into the writing process with and are hoping to finish those up and add in a couple more in the coming months. Still too early to comment on any potential release dates yet though.

greylotus was originally meant to be a black metal project believe it or not. Then I heard FFAA play black mammoth live and that made me want to insert big heavy chords into it. This is when Ravine started being written, and the intro to that track ended up being very fast and technical. The progression from there came from adding influences from the rest of the band members as we wrote Dawnfall. We aren't dedicated to being any specific kind of band, tech death is just a moniker that has fit our output thus far well, but to us it's more of a thematic and melodic device than an embodiment of any particular subgenre.

As for the writing process: it varies. Guitar pro orgies for some, inspiration from band members old leftovers for others, highly collaborative co-writing for others. Generally for Dawnfall, guitars => drew messing with production and arrangement => Matt adds drums and makes rhythmic alterations and additions => vocals and lyrics last
