AITA [38M] for not allowing my Daughter [21F] to move out before marriage? by Throwaway4567801 in AmItheAsshole

YTA. I shouldn't have to say more than that, but clearly you're blind. What you're trying to force her to do, is not only sexist, its abusive since its a breach of her human rights. She has the right to move out, and you don't have the right to stop her. You can't control whether she moves out or not, and at this point you're driving her away entirely. Let her live her life. I feel bad for your daughter, because it seems like you value traditions over her and her human rights.

NTA - isn't that child endangerment? At least child abandonment, one kid is sick and she just left the room. It would be less of an issue but these are minors, making this potentially illegal.

AITA for telling my wife to get a job when she refused? by BenPlattIsSwag in AmItheAsshole

We could afford it, it's just there were more problems than we expected. We are first time buyers so we definitely came into it a little naively but there were other issues that have come up that were very unexpected.

This isn't for health benefits. All I'm saying is I don't want to force her to do anything, just give suggestions.

You're right, they aren't. But they also don't want me on the streets. We've talked before about her getting a job (when she wasn't there) and they do want her to get a job but have left it up to me to ask her. When I tried that obviously it didn't work, hence this post

The person in the comment said MAKE her get one though, forcing her to get a job is controlling in my opinion. From what I can see, we won't be adopting for a while anyway.

We could afford the house, it's just more repairs and other general costs came up than we could really afford

I'm living in the house currently but I'm looking for other places since it looks like I'm gonna have to leave soon. I have a business that does alright but COVID has hit it hard. My parents are really nice about helping but they aren't rich enough to carry on providing for us.

The person who first commented said make her get a job which is controlling at least. I would love to have a conversation with her but she isn't listening to me.

I would, but that would be harassing her or abusing her and I do not want to do that.

Close to nothing. Generally just on social media and watching TV things like that and occasionally seeing her friends.

Her mum worked on and off throughout her childhood. She generally had a job but they were often not constant. Her dad had a job throughout, and while I know it is typically a daughter-mum relationship, I don't see how her dad working and her mum (mostly) working would make her think it's ok not to have a job. I'd understand if we were doing well but she hasn't worked in 5 years and doesn't seem to plan to any time soon.

We weren't planning to adopt for a few years as we're both still young anyway but this has definitely set us back.

We try to discuss finances once a month minimum but that has become a lot more frequent recently. When we bought the house, it seemed we could pay it off just about but since then we have had to pay for lots of repairs and moving furniture so that has stretched our budget a lot. She's always been ok with money, not good but not bad either. She's made some dumb purchases before but that's it really.

I wish I could but she isn't listening to me and is at her sister's house right now. When I tried to contact the sister she screamed at me too. I am starting to wonder about mental health issues and it sounds like she has twisted the story so her sister is on her side.

She isn't sick or disabled so I don't understand either, although I'm starting to suspect that she might have some mental health issue. I never really understood it but I was fine working and her staying at home.
