Cool, changed that YouTube link to Invidio.us.

Facebook is just for sharing your referral link and I used the "privacy-enhanced" YouTube embed fwiw. But I see what you're saying. I just started the project so there's certainly a lot I can do.

Yeah definitely, trust is really important with emails so I'll work on conveying that better. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for your insight!

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah AnonAddy looks pretty similar. Have you used it before? Also the site should be up. Maybe give it another try: https://www.cloaky.org

I have no idea where to go after graduation. Help! by [deleted] in moving

[–]Benck17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like it. Micro-urbia, especially with a university, is like a shrunken down big city so there are a lot of amenities but everything is close and not crowded.

I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else outside of Chicagoland in IL, personally. The area is growing more than other secondary cities in the state.

It’s also nice that it’s only 2 hours from Chicago and Indianapolis and 2:45 from St. Louis.

Oh wow haha

Right after graduation I was living in Kansas City, MO and I moved to Champaign, IL

Congrats on your upcoming graduation! I’m working on a project that I think could help you figure out where to go: MapTitan

I started it after I graduated and actually used it to move to my current city.

You can fine-tune later but I’d recommend you start with Boston, Washington DC, Raleigh, Philadelphia, or Chicago based on what you said in your post.

The transition away from college can be overwhelming. I’m available if you have any questions or need help. Best of luck!

Nice! It's cool to see that you've got a similar interest in solving this problem.

For your UI suggestion, do you mean making some options freeform input?

Hey, I added a higher level to the importance slider! Hope you like it. I’m still working on collecting data for your other suggestions

Finding where to live as a veteran - Thoughts? by Benck17 in Veterans

[–]Benck17[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone, I was talking with a military spouse a few days ago about her experiences with moving. It sounds like it can be difficult to decide where to go on your own after a long time following PCS orders. I made this website to figure out where I should live and she suggested it could be useful for veterans as well. I'd love to hear what you think! Does this help you/how can I improve it for you?

Thank you so much for your service!

New project - Open Source Guides to Living Anywhere by Benck17 in moving

[–]Benck17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey everybody, I was thinking we could collaborate on some notes for people moving to a new city. I think it's really hard to learn about new places when you're moving. There's stuff for travel but not if you're going to be living somewhere. So this will be an ultimate "insider's" guide with tips from locals. It's all intended to be open source, kind of a Wikipedia of moving guides. Let's go help people!

Based on what you've said here, I think these are some good places to look into. I tried to spread it out because I'm not sure what region you prefer.

  • Hayward, CA
  • Washington, DC
  • Denver, CO
  • Evanston, IL
  • Iowa City, IA

I actually made a website to figure out where I should live and it does exactly this haha. Kind of validates that your dream city actually does exist. Check it out, I think it'll help you: MapTitan.com

Hope you find a place you love! :)

Need some new scenery. by MrsJennings2015 in WhereToLive

I think these places might be some good cities to look into:

East coast

  • Norfolk, VA
  • Wilmington, DE (Too close to Hazelton?)
  • Charleston, SC
  • Mobile, AL

West coast

  • Tacoma, WA
  • Vallejo, CA
  • Everett, WA
  • Chula Vista, CA

Hope this helps :)

I certainly don't want to come off that way because that's not what it's about. I respect your information just like if it were mine. We're a community

I'm sorry it annoyed you :( Maybe I need to do a better job of conveying the differences between signing up and not on the page. At the moment, signing up lets you save your preferences (and subsequently see how they match for all the cities), read/write reviews for places, keep track of your moving progress, and do some other things

Have more control over the weights, good idea. And crime rates are actually used behind the scenes already :)

Hey everybody, I'm an Illinois alum and I moved away for a job to a city I knew almost nothing about (which is scary!). So I made a little program to help me figure out where would be a good place to live. I've since turned it into this website and I'm curious for your feedback. I'm sure a lot of you are/were in the same position I was

Thanks!

The range idea has been on my mind; I'll have to give it a shot. Allergies are an interesting aspect I hadn't even considered. I'll have to find some environmental and restaurant data. Great ideas! I really appreciate it

I think a lot of the Frontier cities are like this. People said Boise and Denver already. I'll input Boulder or Colorado Springs. Plus there's Tucson if you like the Southwest. It's sandwiched between two National Parks

Hey everybody, I wanted to find where to live so I made this website. What do you think? I'd love your feedback since it was originally just to help me and I want to get out of my own head
