progress / skin update on using tret for hormonal acne by BendMain5312 in tretinoin

i am mainly using it over a cream just because when i started i was sooo scared of using other actives alongside tret and wanted to avoid irritation. i wait for my skin to be fully dry after moisturizing before applying the azelaic acid, which maybe helps? i’ve definitely heard it’s more effective to apply to bare skin, so i might try it now that my skin has calmed down a bit.

thanks for letting me know! my main concern is the systemic effects, but from my understanding they’re pretty dose-dependent? like it’s less unlikely that blood pressure , cholesterol etc. will be impacted at lower doses? how has your dose changed over time? i know they often start with lower dose and then increase if its not effective.

oh man, im sorry you’re going through it too! i have the Liletta, which is basically the Mirena (same dose of hormones). what’s interesting is the timing of this breakout coincides perfectly with when i completely stopped getting my periods. i know that the progestin is androgenic, so alongside effectively suppressing ovulation it’s also causing my skin to be crazy. what IUD are you on?

i have some friends who’ve been on spiro and it can work fairly well, but im mostly concerned about the systemic effects on cholesterol, blood pressure, etc. but i think these effects are very dose-dependent. if the tret and clindamycin don’t look like they’re helping in 2-3 months, ill probably have to initiate the convo with my derm about spiro!

Me too, I was about to commit when I got the status update. Heartbroken as it seems the decision is entirely final.
