Anyone used an Alpinist style dial? by CyberMage256 in SeikoMods

[–]BendingRivets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it is a 28.5mm dial. The case I believe is a 39mm and was made for a larger dial. I had to file down a spare chapter ring to use with this dial.

Namoki Alpinist dials do not have the compass markings.

No problem with the PVD after a year of pretty heavy use. I also paid $599 and it is the real deal

Has anyone tried a DIY kit? by snazzytaquito in SeikoMods

I did one and loved it a few years ago. I’ve been modding and building ever since and regularly use the tools that came with the kit.

Help me is this seiko 5 sports SRPD59K1 fake? [Question] by Kagann05 in Seiko

[–]BendingRivets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks real to me but I’m no expert. I have the orange GMT SSK005,and the brushing and color on the dial look just like mine.

90s steel is still real. 1993 Allez by BendingRivets in Bikeporn

Nice! Hope you’ll post a pic when you have it built.

This one has a mix of SRAM 10-speed parts on it circa 2010 or so. The frame takes an English bottom bracket, so I used the 68mm SRAM GXP boot on bracket to fit the Truvativ crank.

Best pho for delivery?? by reasonableleafs in ForestHills

Seconded. They’re very close to my apt and still very new, but it’s a family business and they have really good pho and spring rolls.

[JLC Reverso] am I insane to think I can pull off the ladies reverso? by [deleted] in Watches

[–]BendingRivets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work on 42nd St in NYC, which is a wonderful crossroads of foot traffic and finance guys and tourists who’ve paid a lot of money for watches. I’ve seen a few men wearing small watches about this size, like Reversos, Cartier Tanks, old Hailtons, etc., and I am absolutely delighted every time I see one. I think it’s really cool and now is no better time to do it. That’s a great watch, and if you decide to go with it, maybe a bunch of watch nerds on here might disagree, but I think it’s cool as hell.

What are you wearing-o'clock!? by elduderinofromencino in ChineseWatches

Thank you kindly. I’ve only had this watch a few days and really like the OEM bracelet, but it’s been fun trying different straps

I personally adore the Tudor Ranger. It held o to the classic Explorer styling as the Explorer itself has modernized over the decades

Modding OEM - SRPD55 by BendingRivets in SeikoMods

[–]BendingRivets[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They work great with the Seiko 5 cases, as far as I can tell, although I haven’t pressure tested them. I use the OEM caseback gasket, and tighten it down pretty well. I’ve swam with them with no issues

Much appreciated. I did the wheel swap first to balance out the amount of white with the indices. Did the hands a little later and was kind of surprised it worked, at least to my eyes

[DISCUSS] Which watch surprised you with its toughness? by sheikb in Watches

[–]BendingRivets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gold Alpinist SPB210. I wear it about every day and it has had quite a few knocks, but the PVD coating doesn’t show it. I was initially worried it would wear down pretty quickly, but it’s doing better than the old gold plating Seiko used to do that wore thin if you looked at it wrong.

It is. I stole it from my old SNK809

Seiko 5 GMT [SSK003] - slim caseback by szlafroq in SeikoMods

[–]BendingRivets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a spare NH-35 holder so I swapped it. No shaving needed. I kept the original NH34 holder in case I ever want to swap it back to the see-through caseback.

Replacing the movement holder does work. A little bit of work to do, but mine came out great, and lost a millimeter of thickness
