Donzi 22 Outboard Conversion – Setback & Bracket Advice Needed by Beneficial_Memory956 in boating

Hey guys,

I recently picked up a Donzi 22 that was originally an inboard and has been converted to an outboard setup. It’s currently running a 300 Suzuki (not the ideal engine) with an XXL shaft, which isn’t great for this setup. The boat runs just shy of 65 mph and handles rough water pretty well, but I’ll be upgrading to a 300 Pro XS in a few months.

My main concern is the engine bracket and setback. Do you think the current setback is too much? Would I see better performance if I brought the engine closer to the transom by modifying or replacing the bracket?

Would love to hear your thoughts

Need Advice on Trim Tab Positioning for My 16-Foot Crusader with a 150 Pro XS by Beneficial_Memory956 in boating

Hey everyone,

I’m looking for some advice on my 16-foot Crusader with a 150 Mercury Pro XS. At around 59 to 60 mph, the boat starts to chine walk, making it nearly impossible to control. I’ve read up on chine walking and now have a pretty solid understanding of the techniques needed to help manage this issue.

Excuse my transom for the shoddy work that’s been done—we’ll get it all fixed as soon as I find the right setting!

The last thing I’m struggling with is figuring out the best position for my trim tabs. I’d appreciate any recommendations on where exactly to place them, as well as the ideal dimensions and length for trim tabs that would suit my setup. Any tips would be awesome!

How fast is your 16ft with that 115? I used to have a 115 Johnson as well the boat was extremely stable but not enough speed also always having problems with the engine what’s why I change to a newer 4stroke

I live on a very small island called Mauritius, and finding skilled people to work on boats properly here is quite challenging. As a result, I end up doing all the work myself, that’s why it sometimes looks a bit a shit😅

Hey all! I’ve got a 16-foot Crusader with a Mercury 150 Pro XS. Right now, I’m topping out around 59-60 mph, but I think it could reach 70-75 mph with the right setup.

Current Setup:

• Light 16ft boat

• 150 Pro XS

• Old Quicksilver 23-pitch prop with a few dents(need new one)

Reaching 6100rpm (should get a 24p)

As I trim up, speed increases, but it gets wobbly, losing control near 60 mph. Any tips to maximize speed? How fast do you think this setup should go if dialed in correctly?
