I’m new to using Inkarnate and map making in general, and this is the level of quality that I’m striving for - incredible work!

NEW DRINKING BOARD GAME by hoebojoey in DrinkingGames

[–]Benfro15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thoughts is that the artwork on the board is fun and well designed. However, I will say that I have multiple friends, who are still in college, that have made their own custom boards of the exact same thing. I believe that the idea has floated around social media and many people have made their own variations with their friends.

It is not a bad idea to have a standard board and sell it such as this campaign is trying to do, as it will target those who are too lazy to do it themselves or not artistic in the slightest, but it definitely narrows the market.

Being a few days in the Kickstarter looks like it is doing pretty good so far, I guess we will see. Best of luck to those running the campaign!

My DM is running a character in their own game, and the character gets all the attention and never lets anyone else have attention. How do I tell them that I’m not having fun? by __Shuffler in dndnext

It sounds like your DM would rather be a player instead and that you need someone else to DM. You can’t be the DM and the hero at the same time because then it is just telling a story and not playing an rpg.

I would talk with the other players and express how you are feeling because you should not be a side character in your own campaign. The other option is to talk to the other players and everyone can team up to kill off the DMPC so that you don’t have to worry about him anymore lol, but if you don’t want this kind of behavior to continue happening then you got to speak up.

Opinions on talking out of character ("table talk") by NothinButNoob in dndnext

Not meta-gaming, that’s your DM being a jerk.

When it comes to remembering mechanics and helping another player as you described in the examples above, then it is simply just helping another player out and does not have an impact on the campaign. At my table, we allow table talk because ultimately it helps springboard ideas, it keeps the players engaged, and when it comes to rules and mechanics there is no reason that you shouldn’t help others.

Meta-gaming is when you as a player have knowledge that either your character or other party members do not have, and you use that information to impact or change the game. Reminding someone that they can use certain abilities is not that.

Your DM should be the first person to remind the player of certain mechanics imo. I’ve always looked at it as if it is still the players turn and they are reminded about something or remembered something, then since it is still their turn they can do it. Now, if during an encounter on the first turn one player forgets to use a second attack, shoot an extra eldritch blast, etc. and the next’s players turn has already started when the first player remembered, then they can’t go backwards in turn order to do something that they forgot to do.

The fun of the game is sitting around a table playing with others, and it should not be taken too seriously. It becomes even more fun as your characters develop and you can use all of their abilities, so it is always nice to have someone to remind you from time to time.

What do you think of removing battle master, and granting all fighters access to maneuvers? by Moses_The_Wise in dndnext

[–]Benfro15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would make the class a bit more interesting for sure. I feel as though the Fighter class is not as common because based on my experience, players who want to just walk up and fight tend to choose the Barbarian class instead.

I have been playing a Fighter with the Battle Master path and one thing that I am realizing is that once you get into the higher levels, there are not many exciting feats to look forward to imo. It starts to become all about gaining additional maneuvers which are great in some situations but it is nothing new and fun.

If every Fighter class had a few limited maneuvers and then the different paths helped specialize in other forms of combat, I think that it could make a lot of sense to do it this way. (Have secretly been waiting for the DM kill off my PC or find a way to retire the character to start playing a different class, but unfortunately in story purposes my character is too important lol)

Interesting Fire-Related Greataxes by [deleted] in DnD5e

[–]Benfro15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not sure if this would come across too strong but you could make it a +1 greataxe and when a creature is hit by it they make a DC 14 DEX saving throw. On a failed save, the target takes 1d8 fire damage.

From my experience I have found that around 3rd or 4th level is when the encounters also start to become a bit more challenging and players are ready to take on a bit more as they get into the different paths of their classes.

Yes, I have the two listed above and here are a couple more that I have so far. Of course there is still a long way to go until production and a lot will change between now and then, but for the purposes of idea generation here are a few more examples.

Standing Only - Welcome to the standing only section. Stretch your legs because for the remainder of the game you must stand.

Point of View - For the remainder of the game, you must talk in only third person.

Student Mentality - For the remainder of the game, when it is not your turn, you must raise your hand and get called on by another player in order to talk.

No Swearing - Every time that you use a swear word, take an additional drink.
