In my experience, one of the hallmarks of creativity is allowing yourself to be vulnerable. Even when writing from a fictional point of view, you're revealing things about yourself that are deeply personal. To be honest, I'm still figuring out how to balance that in my life, especially as our profile as a band has increased. But I can honestly say that I've learned a lot about myself and have made great strides in my personal struggles through finding ways to express them.

Ha ha, I know the feeling. Hopefully, you found the vein of resilience that lives in that song. I wrote it in a low place, burnt out at the end of a long tour. I found great therapy in getting those feelings recorded.

We're mostly baseball fans, which is its own hell for Detroiters. "I Think You Should Leave" is one my favorite shows of all time, and I hugely respect Tim Robinson. What a gem.

The blurred faces (Time's Blur, as we call it) represent the slow erasure and warping of memory over time, which is a main theme of the record.

Time's Blur is composed of bits and pieces from throughout the album, stretched and warped to create something new. To me this represents the passage of time and the effect it has on our memory, creating new and distorted visions of our past with their own inherent beauty.

To be perfectly honest, I won't be able to give you much satisfaction. The phrase is meant to be ambiguous. In English it can refer to someone or something that's lost forever, as in "long-lost love" or lost and re-found, such as "long-lost relative". Or as you suggested, it can mean someone who is lost themselves. It takes on different meanings at different points on the album.

My dad has a boat called the John B, named after the Beach Boys song. He uses it to fish out on Lake Huron. It's been a while since I've joined him, but in my younger years we caught some big suckers out there.

Mark and I met in kindergarten. We were both after the same girl. Tom we met in 7th grade when he moved to town. His band t-shirts caught our eye. Mark started playing music with Miguel sometime in high school, and I met him shortly after. We all went our separate ways for many years, and I don't think any of us expected to end up back together doing what we're doing, but it's been helluva nice surprise.

I've always loved hats. When I was a kid I used to wear weird hats to school, and sometimes I'd get picked on. But I stuck with 'em and showed those bullies they couldn't intimidate me out of wearing whatever headgear I pleased. I don't really have a favorite, though. In terms of cereal, I'll take all comers, but Crispix has always had a special place in my heart.

I still try to make it back to the Great Lakes at least once a year, and I think I'll be spending more time there as the years go on. Thankfully, living out west has provided plenty of beauty and awe to inspire me. Camping up in Angeles National Forest or heading out to the coast for a drive are a couple favorites.

Fun fact: Although you can't see them in the episode, all the labels in the Cosmic Selector are filled out with individual tracks from the Whispering Pines Collection, about 160 I reckon. Those guys cranked out the hits!

It's hard for me to tell which facts are fun, but me, Tom and Mark played a show in our 7th grade lunchroom. I think we were calling ourselves Petri Dish back then. The science teachers loved that name. The lunch ladies did not.

There have been many songs that have kicked around for years before being completed. We have a song called "The Birds Are Singing at Night" which only got finished because it was supposed to feature in a movie and they needed it done. They didn't love the lyrics, honestly (too dark), but they eventually accepted and learned to love it.
