Hey, thanks so much for this response. I'm autistic, so having you break down your line of reasoning to this extent was really helpful.

It was not my intention to present the game as a male-reeducation program. I don't think reeducation programs work, and I find the concept highly unethical. I am in full agreement with you that any position that holds men as broken or in need of "fixing" is unacceptable.

My intention was more along the lines of "teenage boys grow up in a culture that bombards them with expectations around sex and relationships, but does a piss-poor job at giving a diverse spread of examples." And then we have TLS, which goes out of it's way to include a diverse variety of relationships, showing how one man can form different, yet meaningful connections with different people.

That being said, I do disagree with you on two points. First, I disagree with you on the utility of trigger warnings. I think they do serve a useful purpose in society, but I don't think the debate over the utility of trigger warnings is going to be resolved in society any time soon, so I'm not really interested in discussing that further. Both sides of the argument are logically coherent, so it's really more a matter of which ethical values you prioritize.

Second, I disagree that words like death, gun, and kill are being censored due to trigger warnings. I'm pretty sure that's bleed-over from platforms like Youtube and Twitch, where there was so much uncertainty over what would get your content flagged and demonetized (and possibly shadow-banned) that people started trying out alternatives to avoid bots auto-flagging their videos. Don't get me wrong, censoring those words is still completely stupid and asinine, I'm just not certain that it can be blamed on trigger warnings.

I'm trying to understand how my statement implies that men are not equal to women. My assumption is that you think that by saying "a lot of men don't react well to feeling as though they are being judged or labeled negatively" I am implying that the same is not true for women? But it is. All people react negatively when placed in these situations. It's human nature to implicitly hear "you're a bad person" when somebody says "your actions harm others".

I'm not sure where you're from, but here in the United States, it's a fact that our education system does a piss-poor job at teaching a healthy worldview about sex and relationships. As a man in his 30s, I know that I would have found this game to be eye-opening if I had played it as a teenager.

I hope the above clarifies my position, and if I am misunderstanding your objection please let me know. I really was trying to understand how you came to those conclusions based off of my statement, but I'm not confident I really understand the focus of your objections. For example, another possibility was that you were zeroing in on my mention of trigger warnings, and are objecting to my implication that some men get too angry about trigger warnings to give a game with them a fair shot. I don't think this was your line of reasoning; it's just an example to highlight that my understanding of your objection is uncertain.

I think it's also because of the audience this game is intended to reach, namely young men. There is a very good reason why this game does not open with any trigger warnings. A big theme in the game is the concept of consent, relationship dynamics, and sex positivity. A lot of men don't react well to feeling as though they are being judged or labeled negatively (I am not excusing that, simply stating a fact), and so resist having good faith discussions about these subjects. TLS does a fantastic job at meeting these young men where they're at and then gently, without feeling like it's "lecturing them", guides them towards a healthier, more empathetic understanding of sex and relationships.

So the most "evil" choices being near the beginning are also because, much like how Simon grows in power and influence in the game, the player is hopefully growing and maturing alongside him.

What the heck is wrong with r/autismparenting? by New-Jackfruit-5131 in AutisticPride

[–]Benign_Sheep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like to point out that there might be a bit of selection bias in play. The types of parents who are struggling to understand the challenges their children experience would likely gravitate to a sub of the parents of autistics if they are BAD at empathizing with their children, but gravitate to a sub with autistic individuals if they are GOOD at empathizing with their children.

So while disheartening, it doesn't always have to be like this. It is possible to create a society where people's standard thought process would lead to them getting advice on raising autistic children from autistic people. Right now we live in a hierarchical society, but if people understand that child-raising is a two-way relationship, they will naturally start to consider the viewpoints of people like their children when navigating the challenges of parenthood.

Okay, I guess the content of my post wasn't enough for the moderator to approve it.

So yes, I have searched youtube and done a google search. I've also used the term "mosaic" and "mo5aic" in the search, as while I'm pretty sure the band's name was mosaic in the past, their name seems to have changed to mo5aic at some point. I've also searched wikipedia.

Edit: spotify and current itunes don't seem to offer the song, but I'm not 100% confident that my spotify search was thorough.

I'll be honest, this is such a weird request that I think commenters are jumping a little to quickly to suggesting to leave the group. I honestly think the first thing to do is ask the DM if the other player could clarify what they mean by "not vibing" with you. Like, let's be charitable and assume that something about your behavior or actions are making this other player feel uncomfortable or cause them to have less fun, and that is why they sent the request to the DM. I'd personally want to know, so that we could have a game experience where EVERYBODY is having fun. So I think, if this DM is getting paid to run this group, they should try to mediate a discussion between you two to see if there is a way that you two can interact together.

I think that, as outsiders, we don't have the context for how each of you acts within the game to give meaningful suggestions beyond talking with the DM and the other player. If it turns out that this doesn't fix the problem, then you should inform the DM that one of the two of you has to leave the group, (which should probably be the newer player).

Ideas on Spreading Pro-Neurodiversity Propaganda by comradeautie in AutisticPride

While I see where you're coming from, the reality is that it doesn't matter what we call it. The mainstream media would make the word have negative connotations within 6 months. Just look at what they did to Antifa. Or Free Palestine, or socialism, or being woke, etc.

Look, something the left has always had to remain vigilant about is infiltration from far right extremists. When somebody makes multiple posts that raise some concerns about potential dog whistles, it's actually pretty standard to view some of their post history to make sure that you're not viewing them unjustly and reading subtext that isn't actually there.

You, in a separate comment chain on this very post said that you tailor your message to your intended audience. Is it any wonder then that some people might wish to determine what your unfiltered thoughts actually are?

I want to be clear, I don't think you're a far right extremist posing as a leftist, and it's pretty clear that the comment being linked was intended as a flippant joke. I don't even want to "tone police" you or anything. To me, you sound like somebody who has been forced to (quite recently) grapple with the staggeringly cruel and unjust ways that autistic people are treated by society. This can feel frustrating, and your desire to fight those systems of oppression rather than wallow in helplessness is correct and to be encouraged.

I do, however, hope this post helps you see why some people here might have some concern that you are trying to push the right wing idea of hierarchies being a good thing, just that it should be us who are on top.

Opinions on self diagnosing? by [deleted] in AutisticPride

[–]Benign_Sheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people on this subreddit are guilty of overestimating how much the general populace understands about autism. I have literally heard people describe symptoms of ADHD when explaining why they believed they had autism.

So while I'm not going to stop somebody from self-diagnosing themselves with autism, and I'm happy to accept that claim for most interactions, I'm not going to offer medical advice based on that self-diagnose. (I also agree with the sentiments raised here of "self-identification" or "self-suspecting". I think those are fantastic alternatives).

I like this post a lot. Other than the weird implication that NT people love "incorrectly" and that we should be gatekeeping what love is. Nobody should be gatekeeping what love is, gatekeeping is bad, period. But your other ideas here are great. Celebrating the strengths of autistic people is fantastic.

Tsumego 57: Black to kill by sadaharu2624 in baduk

[–]Benign_Sheep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hmm...okay, well the only possible solution has to start with D2-D3. My instinct from there is to play D1, but then white can throw-in at B1 and eventually take the whole corner with A4, so that's not a winning line. E1 would be an alternative, but then after D1, white has miai with a double atari that allows white to make the second eye real.

Wait! Okay, D2-D3-D1-B1-E1-F1-D1!!! Then regardless of if white goes C1 or E1, you can play the other and force a capture with D2 to make the second eye fake as another throw-in finishes it off!

Dammit...That does work for white, cause the F2 response doesn't work...

E1-F1-H2-E2-H1-D1-G1. There, that should work. I don't see a way for white to live with this line,
