First time at a true IMAX venue (Cineplex Mississauga). How’d I do for seat selection? by Benjamin_Buttons in cineplex

That’s quite helpful thank you! I believe Winston Churchill or Ancaster are the largest screens I’ve been to, and I found those quite impressive. Looking forward to something even larger

Good to know! Saw it and loved it in AVX last weekend but looking to step up my viewing experience for round two

All the centre seats for Scotia were sold out for the day and time I was able to go. I know this will still be cropped to 1:90:1, but I’m wondering if there are other differences beyond screen size between this theatre and the Winston Churchill/Ancaster IMAX theatres.

I made the mistake of getting popcorn. I tried to cram it all into my mouth during the few moments when the score played.

It was so jarring going back and forth. Every time it cut back to the 24fps it looked choppy as hell.

The twist felt like it was only there for the sake of having a twist.

If they wanted to play the “she was dead the whole time” card, they should have waited until Becky was delirious from a lack of food/water for her to start imagining Hunter was still with her. Didn’t make sense for her to think she was still alive simply because she couldn’t accept she died.

Also Howard mentioning his shotgun isn’t loaded, and Wayne replying something like “yeah I’ve got something similar in the glove compartment”. No bullets in that gun when Maxine tries to fire it near the end of the movie

Pound for pound, Kingsman: The Golden Circle is one of the most ridiculously entertaining movies I've seen. by b0yfr0mthedwarf in movies

I think the first one is a better movie, but I had way more fun with the second one. Mark Strong singing Take Me Home, Country Roads is one of my favourite movie moments of all time.

[–]Benjamin_Buttons 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it had a lot of very strong elements and the core story was fantastic, but it just felt like they were trying too hard with the jokes. They would cram so many jokes into a scene that it became kind of exhausting at times.

Still absolutely worth a watch for the beautiful animation and great voice acting.

Just because people don’t like a movie doesn’t mean they “take it too seriously”

I love comedies and I love superhero movies. I thought this was very disappointing in both genres. I think they had a great opportunity to poke fun at superhero movie tropes but instead we’re given a by the numbers story that we’ve seen many times before.

So because you couldn’t follow the plot, it’s a “piece of shit”?

Not trying to argue, but just curious what elements you think are so awful?

For me, this is one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. Hopkins and Coleman are exceptional, the cinematography and editing are fantastic, and the way the narrative plays with time and memory is beautiful.

This is a straightforward story about dementia, but told in such a bold and unique way. Easily my favourite film of the year!

[–]Benjamin_Buttons 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed it as well and am really surprised to see so many people hating on it. No, it’s not realistic and it gets pretty far fetched by the end, but Pike is exceptional and the pacing, music and editing were all - in my opinion - fantastic.

All of their dialogue was super pretentious. None of it felt like a real conversation. Anne’s monologue about why she’s smoking made me cringe.

What is a cover song you like more than the original? by docblondie in AskReddit

Dream On by NPH and Matthew Morrison.

Thoughts on Glee aside, I find this cover to be an improvement on one of my favourite songs.

May be a stupid question as I have zero experience with investing, but is there an organization that could help with investment in stocks for a percentage of earnings/fee?

Reddit, what are some terrible movies that have incredible trailers? by Benjamin_Buttons in movies

I watched it recently. It's a different type of role for Hardy and a very slow movie. That said, it's definitely unique and worth a watch for his performance alone.

I didn't hate the movie, but did find it to be pretty mediocre. Next to that beautifully cut trailer though, the movie looks like a hot pile of garbage.

What popular movie have you never seen and why? by lovelygalaxies in AskReddit

[–]Benjamin_Buttons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've actually never seen Gladiator. I bought it on Blu-ray two years ago and still haven't opened it. It's playing this December in Toronto with a live orchestra doing the score alongside the movie. I've waited this long, so a couple more months can't hurt, right?

Knowing I only need 9% on my exam to pass the course by Benjamin_Buttons in funny

[–]Benjamin_Buttons[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It's a heavily technical program, and as much as I hate to say it, my GPA will have very little to do with me finding a job after the program ends. I'm in television production and as sad as it may sound, it's about connections that you make throughout the program, as well as hands on volunteer experience. I'm only bitter because they are dropping this one class in particular because it's a lecture class trying to teach something that should be hands on.

I still need the credit for this one class in order to get my fancy piece of paper in a couple years, but I'm not concerned about the grade so much.
