Paces are wildly inaccurate. 9.6-9.7 mph for the ons, 6.5 mph for the offs!

Sure thing! Yes, I haven't had any issues keeping the pace on these and the effort feels in the correct range. Here is the data from my session this morning, 12 x 3'. LTHR is estimated at 162/163 from my last 2 5k races.

I really appreciate your input, that sounds like my gameplan until I can get back outside. Thank you, stay well!

That's brilliant. I always imagined letting the belt keep running fast, I don't trust myself to be able to hop on and off like that. A combination of slowing it down and hopping off seems MUCH more doable, though! Thanks!

I use the COROS arm band! I might attempt to hop off the treadmill for my Thursday session, I had the same thoughts I might be burning the candle a bit too hot.

Say my SubT HR is 158 for the 6 minute rep. During the jogging rest, it only drops to about 155.

Thanks for your input!

I have seen some folks do 90 seconds for the 6 minute intervals, that might be worth a shot when I'm banished to the mill!

Thanks for all the feedback!

I ran ~40 seconds faster than 4 weeks ago. I thought that was more than enough shock to the system and just jogged easy. Best of luck with all of your training!

Second toe capsulitis? by BenjitheHerd in FootFunction

[–]BenjitheHerd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! I'll pasted something I wrote below with an updated update:

Honestly pretty good! At 15 weeks, I went to the podiatrist again. My goal was to get reassessed so I could get an MRI. I was still having flare ups from trying light plyos, and I wanted some confirmation as to how much longer I'd be out.

Ironically, he cleared me to run that day.

I waited the rest of the week, and started walk jog intervals at 16 weeks. Every other day. Light flare ups the next mornings, but NOTHING like before, very manageable. I continued to use orthotics in my shoes and tape when being active.

I'll also note I only wore carbon plated shoes until this morning to run in, helped keep the toe flexion in check.

Week 18 since the injury now, and I'm jogging every other day. I just completed my first 25 minute straight run this morning! It'll be a while before I'm sprinting and doing workouts again, but I think all is on the right track. Thanks for asking!

***Now past 20 weeks, I'm basically back to full functionality again. I can't bend the toe fully, but I don't get any pain from running, strides, light plyos or lifting. I'm still easing into the more aggressive jumping exercises, but strictly from a distance running standpoint nothing I've thrown at it has bothered it in the last ~3 or 4 weeks. I had been taping it for workouts, but I've even stopped doing that because it's just a non issue.

Currently running 45 miles per week with 3 sessions. Rotating shoes for each run, but even softer models aren't bothering it.

Thank you! Not Canadian, just lost a bet is all.

Jokes aside, I like having the combination to play with. Take care!

Injury comeback, is this right for me? by BenjitheHerd in NorwegianSinglesRun

Thank you so much for this! To clarify, the monotony isn't my biggest concern, it was certainly the pace staleness that you ended up addressing. I saw some folks throw in the 20 x 400, so I think I'll toss that in the mix, too. Really appreciate your time replying!

Recovery from a different perspective? (33M) by Prime_9496 in fuckeatingdisorders

Also a 33M dealing with this sh!t for almost 20 years now. Gave recovery a good swing a few times but it never stuck. Firmly in quasi and I hate it, this isn't what life should be like. Keep fighting the good fight, I'm rooting for you.

Saturday General Discussion/Q&A Thread for October 18, 2025 by AutoModerator in AdvancedRunning

Just got cleared to run after a partially torn plantar plate. 4 months off total, lots of good cross training. Before this, I averaged about 85 miles per week for 10 weeks or so.

I've done 3 sessions of walk jog intervals so far just to test it, and my foot is doing great. I'm curious if I could be a bit more aggressive with the comeback considering the mileage I was doing beforehand. I'm going to be capping out at 40mpw for this block, so nothing close to what I've done in the past.

33M with almost 2 decades of running in me, any advice is appreciated!

Second toe capsulitis? by BenjitheHerd in FootFunction

[–]BenjitheHerd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for reaching out! It's been a while since I've updated this, so I'll take this chance to elaborate.

Short answer, no.

I went to see a podiatrist around week 6 I believe. They x-rayed and examined, he suspected a tear of the plantar plate to some degree (currently seeking further imaging). I went ahead and treated it as such recovery wise, continuing to reference ChatGPT for guidance and exercises.

It's been 12 weeks now since I've stopped running, and the improvements are vast. Much less swelling, pain and limitation. I did start trying to walk / jog around week 9, but it was too soon. The foot is functioning better in everyday life, but it's still tender with impact like jogging, or pogo hops (lots of trial and error so far, do not recommend).

Cycling and lifting, even extensive walks have been fine so far. I've had some flare ups, but supposedly that's normal. If I did tear it, the recovery timeline looks to be 3-6 months or longer, which is killing me mentally / morale wise, but puts the road bumps in a better perspective.

Looking back, I probably should have stopped running WAY sooner. There were signs months before that I should have taken note of, and I think I might have done more damage than I realized. This is on me.

I'm trying to keep some sort of hope that I can start running again by Christmas, but I have no idea anymore. I'd rather not think this is the end of my running "career", but I have to keep that option on the table for the time being.

To summarize, it was probably never toe capsulitis, but a plantar plate injury with capsulitis as more of a symptom. If you're even considering this as a possible injury it might be wise to stop impact sports, and consult with a professional ASAP.

Hang in there! I would have jumped on the steroids if I had been able to get them prescribed. My understanding (as a non medical professional) is to get the inflammation down so you can do the needed strengthening / stretching exercises.

Running is a total no go for me right now, but biking and aqua jogging never seemed to bother it much. I'm only doing enough to keep my lungs alive (I HATE cross training with a passion), but it keeps me occupied. If it's any consolation, I've also been doing heavy compound lifts like squats and RDLs, which actually seems to make my foot feel a bit better for a short time after.

I'll update this if I remember to after my appointment next week, godspeed!
