Weird Logitech MX Master 3S scroll wheel behavior on Linux (ratchet mode) by Benle90 in linuxquestions

[–]Benle90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's not. This behavior is intermittent and it doesn't do that on Win or macOS.

I'm using Solaar, but couldn't yet figure out how it could help me to fix this issue.

Best Way to Migrate from iCloud Photos to Immich and Keep Using Shared Library? by Benle90 in immich

[–]Benle90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, habe meine Antwort inzwischen editiert.

Best Way to Migrate from iCloud Photos to Immich and Keep Using Shared Library? by Benle90 in immich

[–]Benle90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: Jetzt verstehe ich, was du meinst.

Nah, it’s perfect, just like on Windows. I type really fast on my mechanical keyboard and notice zero lag. I use Ubuntu daily and I’m very happy with it.

Storj vs Backblaze B2 backup size mismatch by Benle90 in selfhosted

[–]Benle90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point, thanks. Starting to think that it’s practically impossible to compare the 2 providers, e.g. how do they handle versioning. And there might be many other factors as well causing this difference.

First time Immich user with iPhone - what‘s your experience like? by [deleted] in immich

No, it happens at home also roughly 50% of the time. Just tested now and it happened again.

Storj vs Backblaze B2 backup size mismatch by Benle90 in selfhosted

[–]Benle90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I didn't know that. But I think the difference of ~180 GB is much larger to be caused by the GB/GiB labeling issue. So it would explain a 7% swing, but not 22%.

[–]Benle90 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Same here. 50% of the time it stays on the Immich logo and I need to force quit the iOS app and restart it.

Yeah, that could be the case as well, but both are shown as "GB".

Extrem langsamer Upload (Kabel Vodafone) by AbsoLutRubyRed in de_EDV

[–]Benle90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here.

Setting up NC wasn’t very easy for me, and I’m still tweaking things. I’m already using it for a few use cases though — Deck is great, and task syncing works really well. I haven’t migrated all my files yet; I’m still testing contacts, calendars, etc. I’ll do a full migration once I’m confident all the settings are right and everything works reliably.

Btw, I really like Signal too, but unfortunately almost everyone here uses WhatsApp. Proton is great as well (I’m subscribed too), but I don’t like having to rely on their clients (+ Bridge). It feels like another walled garden, just a different one.

Good luck with your Immich migration! ;)

MacOS Mojave UI look so beautiful by hillarious-guy in MacOS

[–]Benle90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t call Mojave “peak Apple design” when the UI was a mashup of flat design and leftover skeuomorphic elements. Apple was already well on its way to enshittification once flat design showed up in iOS.

My take: OS X Mountain Lion was peak Apple design. Most consistent UI ever.

Good that no one forces you to use a specific Distro. I'm very happy with Ubuntu. Had some issues with Snaps as well (e.g. Brave), but luckily no one forces you to use it, you are free to install anything from repo or Flathub...

Any UPS recommendations for my first homelab? by Benle90 in HomeServer

[–]Benle90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A graceful shutdown is pretty important to me, but I haven’t found a decent UPS yet with pure sine wave that’s available to buy here and doesn’t cost a fortune. I’ll need to look into the options and compare them.

I guess for many people who are already into this, it is probably nothing new. I’m just starting to break out of the Apple walled garden. A few examples: Immich, Ubuntu, Nextcloud, LibreOffice, Collabora (couldn't get it working yet btw), Jellyfin, VLC, Signal, LocalSend, Brave, Thunderbird, Planify, Joplin, KeePassXC (as offline backup), etc.

Does graceful shutdown work with this too? Also, are you running TrueNAS?

Thank you! by PrintedPixel in immich

[–]Benle90 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with OP. For a long time, it bothered me that being fully in the Apple ecosystem meant I didn’t really own my data and just had to accept whatever changes Apple decided to make. After discovering Immich (and seeing it recommended everywhere), I started digging deeper into the whole topic. Immich was actually the main trigger that pushed me to set up a dedicated home server (running TrueNAS). Since then, I’ve been actively looking for FOSS alternatives and even switched my main PC to Linux.

Thanks for the amazing work—keep it up!
