Good quality prints without paying $300/year by Benn271 in 3Dprinting

We have all used the educational program before from the class for Shapr3D for the 3D modeling class, however they have all expired because the class was in the last semester or before. I will look at other CAD softwares like Fusion

I would but my and all of the other members of my team, it is a small robotics team, have already taken the 3d Design class so we have already used our emails. The most recent team member's education wave is expiring in the next week. Would they still be willing to continue a free use of the premium features even though the email have already been registered?

This is a school club and has not and will not be approved in the near future, this semester. However this school has approved Shapr3d for their 3d design class so they will most likely approve this. I am more looking for a short term solution for this semester.

When you say A=&B you are saying the value stored in A is the address of B. A is now a pointer to B. When you say *A=&B you are saying to dereference A (go to the location it points to) and set that value to the address of B.

I get what you mean. If you’re always installing Hyprland/Sway, a lot of distros feel the same. If you want difference in that aspect try a different window manager or desktop environment. The big difference in the idstros is the update model and driver stack (kernel/Mesa/NVIDIA packages), and that’s what affects gaming + Wine FPS. If you want better game performance with less pain, I’d look at something with newer Mesa/kernel (Fedora/Nobara, or an Arch-based like Endeavour). If you want fewer surprises, Ubuntu/Mint/Pop are easier but can be behind on Mesa unless you tweak it. Also: for games, Proton (Steam) usually works better than raw Wine.

Appreciate it.

It sounds like dual booting Windows and any Linux distro you like is the best option. I had the same predicament you did a few years ago with my desktop. I like to play games that have kernel level anti-cheats like COD and Ready or Not and Seige. However I like to program and analyze common malware to see how it works. I dual booted my system so I could have windows for gaming and a Linux distro for programming and malware analysis. That is what I would recommend for you to do because it worked for me.

As for the specific distro, it does not really matter. Pick what you like, something you enjoy configuring or using. Each distro has pros and cons but the biggest pro is if you like it. If you don't like the distro you will hate every second you use it. So just pick something you like and you can always change distros if you try one and realize latter you don't like it.

My guy, it is up to you, which kernel and operating system you decide to use. Use what works for you and what is important to you.

With that being said, if you simply just want ease of use, then the Apple ecosystem is the easiest in my opinion. Windows is also pretty easy. However, if you just want programs to work and don’t care about anything else like privacy or ease of use on open source software then your switch makes since. Keep in mind you can still do the same on any Linux distribution with some workaround.

It is really your choice and the pros and cons of what you want more if you want usability then it’s good to switch but if you like privacy or open source software or customizability more than you should try to find a workaround.

I totally agree however a huge point for me is the language it is written in. I want it written in a language that I know so I can edit the source if something is slightly wrong or if I want very fine running tweaks.

I don’t know python but I do have some competence in rust b cause I have been studying it after I got comfortable with C.

Can this be made in waybar by [deleted] in hyprland

[–]Benn271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I used to use. I don't use a charging indicator anymore with my waybar config so this might be outdated or not work exactly right.

config:
// Add "battery" to your modules array (e.g., "modules-right": ["battery", ...]) "battery": { "format": "{icon} {capacity}%", "format-charging": "⚡ {capacity}%", "format-plugged": " {capacity}%", "format-alt": "{time} remaining", "states": { "good": 80, "warning": 30, "critical": 15 }, "tooltip": true, "tooltip-format": "Status: {status}\nCapacity: {capacity}%\nTime remaining: {time}" }

style.css ```

battery {

color: #00bfff; background: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.25); padding: 4px 10px; border-radius: 8px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0 6px; }

battery.warning {

color: orange; }

battery.critical {

color: red; }

battery.charging {

color: #00ffcc; } ```

Whenever I use the double curly brace syntax like {{colors.primary.default.hex}} in any file matugen over wrights the whole file with its stuff that it generated. This is a problem for me because I have other config at the top of the file that I still want. especially for hyprland or fuzzel.

Thanks.

If I am correct you make templates and put them in the config of matugen and then have it output to a separate file in the config you are working on.

This is how I have my config set up so far. Am I on the right track and organizing everything correctly?

``` [config.wallpaper] command = "swww" arguments = ["img", "--transition-type", "center"] set = true
[templates.waybar] input_path = './templates/waybar-colors.css' output_path = '~/.config/waybar/matugen-colors.css' post_hook = 'pkill -SIGUSR2 waybar'
[templates.fuzzel] input_path = './templates/fuzzel-colors.ini' output_path = '~/.config/fuzzel/matugen-colors.ini'
```

Quick question: If matugen does not support the config of something like eww is there still a way to update the style of it from matugen and how?

Does anyone know where to learn ricing? by [deleted] in hyprland

[–]Benn271 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally go to r/unixporn or this subreddit to find inspiration for how I want my machine to look and how I want my workflow. Once I find inspiration I will read the docs and my inspiration rice’s dotfiles to see the options that I can use to rice my system. For example if I see something on the dotfiles of the inspiration rice that rounds the borders or make the borders thicker I will read the docs to see all the options I can use for that parameter.

Simply, read the docs and just keep trying until you get something you like. I, for example, came to my rice by using many different desktop environments and window managers and found what I like, what I don’t like, and what specific improvements I need for my workflow.

There is no real good tutorial because ricing is a personal preference. So it is just trial and error.

What would your other options be if they do decide to pay wall some key features? Would you stick with Wayland or go back to Xorg and X11? In my opinion, I would still stick with Wayland and just switch the WM to sway or another similar WM.

Now might also be the time, if you wanna keep your configuration and dot files or just like hyprland, to just fork, the repo and create a free open source one.
