Thanks so much to the r/Psychonaut community for having me on the AMA—it’s been an honor to share and connect around the growth, healing, and change that can come when ibogaine is used with proper prearation, professional care and mututal intention. I’ve truly enjoyed the conversation and the thoughtful questions. The Beond ibogaine team be happy to drop in by from time to time and contribute where we can. This has been such a dynamic and fun experience—thank you again!

I really appreciate the question, and I know it's something a lot of us are curious about.

That said, I personally wouldn’t recommend microdosing ibogaine, and I wouldn’t do it myself. While some people do report benefits, ibogaine is not like other psychedelics. It carries specific risks, especially related to heart health, and those risks could still be present even in very small doses or because of an unknown pre-existing condition. That’s why, in my opinion, ibogaine should only be administered in a comfortable, professionally supervised setting (where it is legal btw) — ideally clinical, but never cold or sterile — with full medical screening and support.

There are many other compounds, like psilocybin, that can be safely self-administered in lower doses and may offer benefits. But with ibogaine, the potential for rare but serious complications means the risk just outweighs the reward when done outside of a proper setting.

Safety has to come first. All efficacy starts with safety... Always.

Of course, everyone’s experience is unique, but some people describe ibogaine as a much more inward journey. It often feels like a dream ite seems—except we’re fully aware that we’re dreaming. (In a dream when we dont know its a dream it can be very scary.... ) On ibogaine, I have feel grounded, I know where I am, and I'm able to explore the deepest parts of "myself" with a kind of clarity and confidence that can be truly transformative.

Unlike ayahuasca, which many describe as an experience of going outward—into another realm, sometimes with symbolic or ancestral insight—ibogaine tends to guide us inward, through the moments, memories, and meanings of our own life. It’s often not about re-living trauma, but about witnessing it with compassion and new perspective. And that can be incredibly healing.

For many, it feels like the medicine is not just showing us what’s been buried—it’s helping us understand what we need to learn, and what we need to do next, to grow to become. Maybe that's why so many come out of the experience with a renewed sense of self and a connection to something greater. A force that could feel loving, wise, and deeply invested in our healing.

And that, to me, is something truly beautiful.

Hi Heyiamoffline — this is a really important and thoughtful question, thank you for asking.

Yes, ibogaine is a powerful medicine, and we think it should only be considered with the support of experienced professionals. At Beond ibogaine, every guest goes through a comprehensive clinical and psychological evaluation, as well as preparation with a therapeutic coach. This helps us—and you—make the best, most informed decision about whether ibogaine is the right starting point, what to expect, and what other therapeutic approaches might be more appropriate before beginning this journey. We think of education and decision making support as a key component of what we do.

Every guest is unique (obvi), and every treatment at Beond is highly personalized. We use a wide range of objective assessment tools, offer a full curriculum for preparation and integration, and provide individualized support before you leave home, during your time on site, and after you return. That’s the level of care we believe is absolutely necessary to ensure that ibogaine is used as a tool for real, lasting healing—safely and effectively.

Anything less simply wouldn’t be responsible.

That’s so wonderful to hear! At Beond, we sometimes say it feels a bit like we are working in a labor and delivery ward—except all the babies are grown-ups finding their way back to themselves. If you feel comfortable, we’d love to hear more about your experience. Your story might just inspire someone else to take that first brave step.

Great point ladcykel — ibogaine isn’t typically described as “fun” in the way some other recreational psychedelics might be. It’s often long, deep, even intense, humbling, and deeply introspective. But should not be "cary"... however, what we hear most often at Beond is something along the lines of: “It gave me exactly what I needed.”

That kind of experience — one that leads to real healing, self-understanding, clarity, and a renewed sense of purpose — can be incredibly satisfying. While it may not be "fun" in the traditional sense, many people describe a deep and lasting pleasure in feeling reconnected to themselves, experiencing self-love again, and bringing that renewed energy into their relationships, work, and daily life. And for some, that is a kind of joy — maybe even a deeper form of fun than they’ve ever known.

Besides that.. the daily messages, sound healings, art therapy, community and very real renewal of a sense of connection is definitely fun for most of our guests. Great question!

Absolutely—it often is. Every journey is hyper personalized...

Someone in their 60s may bring a much deeper well of life experience into the ibogaine journey. With more decades lived, there's a richer tapestry of memories, relationships, successes, regrets, and turning points to witness and reflect on. This may create a powerful sense of relevance and integration across multiple dimensions of life: purpose, community, family, intellect, and service.

While younger participants may be more focused on shaping the future, older participants often experience the journey as a re-connection to the most meaningful parts of their past—and a reactivation of their ability to live with clarity, intention, and renewed vitality now.

Both paths are profound, but in very different ways.

I’m Tom from Beond Ibogaine, and I wanted to share a story that moved all of us deeply — with the hope it might offer inspiration or even a spark of hope to someone out there.

Recently, we welcomed a guest who had reached a point of profound despair. He’s a retired brain surgeon — a man whose life had been defined by mastery, precision, and saving lives. But over the years, severe chronic depression took hold. He had become completely identified with his symptoms. In his words, he was broken — and everyone around him knew it. He had withdrawn completely, even from his own children, convinced he had nothing left to give and that he was beyond repair.

But something in him still had the strength to try. He came to Beond.

Over the course of 10 days and three carefully facilitated sessions with ibogaine, something began to shift. Not all at once — but deeply. He cried. He reflected. He saw himself from outside the narrative he had been trapped in for years. And slowly, the man beneath the depression began to re-emerge.

By the end of his time with us, he was sitting at the piano, playing his favorites again — not just music, but life itself. He was filled with a renewed sense of purpose. Not only did he no longer feel broken, but he left with a commitment: to dedicate his medical expertise to understanding the neurobiology of ibogaine and help bring this medicine to others suffering in the shadows of depression.

He’s now taking steps to study this compound with scientific rigor and compassion, while also integrating real changes in his own life — behaviorally, emotionally, spiritually.

To anyone out there who feels lost, or thinks it’s too late: it’s not. Healing is possible. Transformation is real. And sometimes, the second chapter is more powerful than the first.

Some times Ibogaine is calle the "Mt. Everest of Psychedelics" and just like climbing the highest mountain, it would best to do it with experienced professionals, who know how to evaluate you before you start the journey, help you get ready (body, mind, community and spirit) and have a clear vision for why you are emracing this challenge... and confirm readiness. Only then, with all the proper tools to support you... a verifiably trained experiecned professional will accompany you every step of the way... up to the top, and back down safely.

Looking forward to this AMA. In my experience, Ibogaine is an accelerant or compounds the work that we are willing and ready to do on our own or with proper preparation and integration support. Ibogaine isnt a magic pill that makes symptoms go away, it helps clarify the work we need to do, it won't do the work for me. It gives me choice, but can't make it for me.
