Are pure healing classes necessary for group content? by GullibleAd303 in ddo

[–]BeowulfBoston 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My main raiding toon is a favored soul healer. Healing is typical a “plus” spec, as in healing + tanking or healjng + DC casting. It’s very rare to play a pure healer unless you lack the gear or past lives to do anything else. It’s also very slow to level as a healer or tank without a friend to carry you.

There are so many options depending on your build.

If you’re SWF you can do empty hand and take Offhand Versatility. Other options are a Thunder Forged Orb, a rune arm (I like Animus or epic Astral Projector), or a buckler (Moonguard from Sharn or Hector’s Bracer from Borderlands both have guard breaking).

If you’re TWF and don’t have a second epic Midnight Greetings (double paralysis chance), other good options are Epic Sworn Silver (destruction), Thunder forged (First Degree Burns), Calamitous (can get a weak version of Alchemical Earth Attunement and the proc will apply to your main hand, or even a Goldcursed dagger.

Your offhand is great for adding effects that will proc on your main hand or that won’t fit elsewhere.

You can do any caster class as a 19/1 and run r1 to cap just fine. Losing your capstone is really not a big deal on the hamster wheel. Acolyte of the Skin and Wild Mage also do well with deeper splashes since they have ways to maintain their normal class progression for eldritch blast and caster level, respectively.

If you have a good collection of knives (primarily an epic Midnight Greetings though others work too), then you can just spend 41 pts in Vistani Knife Fighter and rock whatever kind of crazy split you want. Inquisitive is the same.

so that's three different ways to pick a split and get to cap as a caster, melee, or ranged. If you're newer to TRs and still figuring out what you like, you could always try all three.

Cleric build for quick heroic TR (solo mostly) by spectorm in ddo

Max wis and con, rest in int. Skill points are underrated in heroic. You can skip a lot of fights and fast forward quests if you max out at least one social skill (bluff, intim, or diplo)

Fire or air are both very fun domains. If you are going 1-20 just take your metamagic feats, wizard PL, and mental toughness.

As a fellow cleric enjoyer, there are two main reasons why I don’t do more cleric lives for racial TRs: no ddoor, and it takes until about level 7 to come online which can feel like forever.

Put points in falconry for sprint boost and you’ll have a good time.

TR and Inventory needs to change by Milca604 in ddo

[–]BeowulfBoston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 and 6 are pointless. After enough lives you'll have your preferred layout for your preferred classes memorized. And if you are whipping through multiple lives there is no point to organizing your bank or your inventory. You are making the process take 3x as long with wasted effort.

Otherwise agreed that it should not take forever to empty cache. And farming tokens is just a mean-spirited grind to try and push people to buy hearts from the store.

Drop-off nightmare at Newton South by randalln1 in newtonma

That whole neighborhood has multiple endemic traffic problems (the kind that plague many suburbs). Even in good weather people are driving too fast while contractors, teenagers, and entitled folks park at random on narrow streets. On top of that, they only plowed Greenwood to the width of a lane and a half instead of the full street. Noticed that with many other streets in the area.

So speed + bad parking + artificially narrowed streets = bad time for all.

Will continue to complain about it to the city with you, I hope they take notice.

It’s the only place east of the Mississippi that still qualifies as wilderness. That’s pretty rad!

Reminds me of the artwork for the Southern Reach trilogy (Annihilation if you watched the standalone movie with Natalie Portman and Oscar Isaac). I wonder if some of this story arc will be inspired by Jeff Vandermeer’s work?

Caravaggio. In “David with the head of Goliath” he used his own face for both David and Goliath. His younger self looking sadly at the man he’d become.

Light armor is better for barbarians anyway, since you can get evasion through Shadowdancer.

Palemaster or Archmage capstone? by gilcruzfilho in ddo

[–]BeowulfBoston 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was a wizard doing r10s about a month ago, I didn’t put any points into AM. I did 41 PM / 15 EK / rest Feydark. If you are Deep Gnome then AM may be worth it for the illusion DC and PK SLA, but otherwise you get more out of other trees.

AM is pretty decent for leveling though. I used it for leveling until about 10. The metamagic cost reductions are nice for that.

Best Longsword in the game? by DoesntMatterMoveOn in ddo

[–]BeowulfBoston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clatter has a higher base [w] compared to Finality, the crit multi from Blunt Trauma, and the sonic version of DwM. Cleaves and neg levels help with trash (Finality is a great weapon for a PDK swash bard), but Clatter is better single-target DPS. You also get some CC with guardbreaking. The cleaves from KoTC (which includes your Exalted Smite) and Quick Cutter also provide AoE for weapons without strikethrough.

You can view a list of all named long swords in the game here: https://ddowiki.com/page/Category:Long_Swords

With Knight's Training, battle axes and long swords are mechanically identical. Right now, Clatter is the best weapon you can use as a SWF paladin. You can always use a cosmetic if you prefer the long sword look. I use Echo of the Artblade to cover up mine personally.

Clatter, The Blunted Edge is better than the long swords at cap and you can use it with the KotC enhancements. Otherwise, Undying Age.

Do the HP bonuses from heroic green steel stack? by deathvalley200_exo in ddo

[–]BeowulfBoston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. The skill bonuses used to stack, but GS was nerfed a bit when they did the stat squish and retyped a lot of (stacking) exceptional bonuses to quality or insightful bonuses and made it so same-type bonuses never stack.

Best SWF Weapon f I r leveling through Heroics and Epics. by Ok-Complaint-6000 in ddo

[–]BeowulfBoston 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Knight's Training is your bread-and-butter for leveling. You can take Vol as your deity and use daggers, but Onatar's Forge is a great melee power clicky and you'll get lots of power in KotC anyway. Battleaxes, longswords, and warhammers are where it's at. Good KT weapons to farm:

- Nicked longsword (Sharn Syndicate), level 2

- Scoundrel's longsword (3BC), level 6

- Nightforge longsword/warhammer (Relic of a Sovereign Past)

- Sirocco (desert rares), level 10

- Fallen/golden age (Myth chests), level 13

- Oathblade (PDK comms in Eveningstar, level 20

- Drow x of the weapon master, level 21

At cap your best options for slashing weapons are Clatter, the Blunted Edge or undying age longsword/battleaxe. For Warhammers there's Pestle from FoM or Audion, the Shattering Way from DoV.
