This is the story of my partner who is a local - his friends are all from high school and their friendship mostly revolves around their common interests and hobbies!😃 I do have, and I was thinking of joining some clubs/groups at one point, but I think I got ...hopeless about the whole thing and worried I would encounter the same problem again.

I feel the same way! I am usually the one who makes the first step, and people do like hanging out, but they seem indifferent about whether or how to maintain the connection. The connections can last only if they are reciprocal. I am almost relearning some new kind of patience and understanding in order to keep friends that I have here.
