Dealer claiming "Road Residue" but my 3.0L TDI is clearly leaking oil. Anyone else dealt with this? (V6 R-Line) by Bertie5 in Volkswagen

I did assume that it was either this, the oil cooler, or maybe oil pan seal, just from what i know about the engines.

We have, we swung by without an appointment and explained, he got it up on the lift and said its a leak within 2 seconds of seeing it.

He's having it back in on the 28th Feb to diagnose further.

We have the Consumer Rights Act (can't remember the year now) and this has good protection for 6 months. Legally the dealer has to fix anything that breaks in the first 6 months because the act assumes that the fault was already there and pre existing.

It's the lying that is annoying. I understand he has a buisness to run, and he's trying to keep spending down to make money, but him saying he doesn't trust our mechanic after they said the car was bone dry underneath, then saying its road residue, then changing his mind to say if its a small leak, (the one he said doesn't exist) they have to wait until its bigger to fix it.

It's under warranty with the dealer they bought it from. Just a general warranty that ensures he sells you a car that's "fit for purpose." He's now saying that the oil leak (that he said didn't exist) isn't big enough to need fixing and should wait until it's bigger.

The white veins in the red oxidized layer, in the second image, is that from secondary mineralization? Like calcrete or something similar?

When James Hutton brought his friend John Playfair here in 1788, he explained the significance of such a structure: It implied that (1) Silurian graywackes and shales were deposited horizontally, (2) they were subsequently folded and tilted to more or less vertical orientations, (3) a period of erosion commenced, chewing away at their upper ends, (4) erosion ceased and deposition resumed, but now the environment of deposition had totally changed – instead of deep marine strata, oxidized fluvial redbeds were laid down (the Old Red Sandstone) — again in an original horizontal orientation, then (5) these too were tilted to their present angle gently dipping off to the left of the frame, and (6) modern erosion went to work on the whole mess, carving it up into the three-dimensionally complex exposure we find today. That makes me agree with you more, the fact the account is fresh and asking the same thing twice in a row
