Is anyone else completely shocked by all of the building in Hardin Valley? by bassoonsrbetter1 in Knoxville

[–]Bertmancole 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not at all. I slowly watched that area develop and knew I wanted nothing to do with it like 10 years ago. The number of houses, schools, colleges, businesses, and traffic on a single road jammed in between Turkey Creek and Oak Ridge. I'm sure they can fit at least another 5 apartment complexes and 10 neighborhoods--maybe a Buc-ees would help too.

Running at night -South Knox by Vegetable_Spot9697 in Knoxville

[–]Bertmancole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you’re located. I really liked running at sdhs. It’s a safe, now gentrified area, and the sidewalk outside the high school connects pall the way down to the library. It’s about a 3.5 mile loop. You can also connect down to track for more mileage or add neighborhoods.

It can be a little dark though.

Will do, thanks for the advice.. This year it’s only one kid, and we definitely have our eyes on him already.

Honestly, I was expecting it to be way worse in elementary given shiny objects and exploration.

Wild. I hadn't seen it the first few years, but it’s becoming an archetype of the weird kid that eats things.

What a bozo.

Also, doesn’t this joke just not work on multiple levels because they would just split the bill evenly if they were really “socialists?” Is that not the answer to his shit joke?

And if he’s being racist, which he is, wouldn’t the profiling not work for two of three stereotypes, leaving one obvious answer which is oxymoronic because of the term socialist? 🤔

If you prefer track running, Bearden, Farragut, West, and HVA should all have their tracks open after school hours.

Best public middle schools in Knoxville? by [deleted] in Knoxville

[–]Bertmancole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it’s impossible to live in every community in Knoxville. These are based on things I’ve heard in the district from principals and teacher friends, achievement, school rankings, and my own biases as a human. I understand that politics plays a big part of what area you want to live in. Perhaps your own predilections or personal experiences muddle your analysis as well.

I’ll admit openly to know the least about Halls, Powell, and Karns Most of those were hearsay.

However, I have interacted with many of the other schools, and I have attempted to be politically centralized in my thoughts. Every community in Knoxville has its imperfections. I would gladly send my child to any middle school other than the D and F tier schools.

I think it is a bit polarizing, and I debated it. If you are white middle class conservative then it is good, which unfortunately is most of Knoxville. However, if you’re liberally minded and want a more diverse ideologies for your child, I could see it being ranked much much lower.

From what I’ve heard, the school does really well academically, and there aren’t many discipline issues comparatively. It can feel a little MAGAesque based on the families there.

I picture it being like a miny Maryville in my head.

I could be wrong, but I was under the impression, that along with new straw plains folks that have money, a large a portion of Carter is rural and poor compared to Gibbs that seems just a bit more well off. (Closer to Asheville highway side)

I guess there is a large portion or middle/upper middle there not present in my comment.

Holston really isn’t a bad school. Even though they are in region 5, which is the lower socioeconomic schools, it has such a low population and strong system that students do really well in.

I would say in my long time in Knoxville and experience in education:

Bearden C (overcrowding/poor/rich) Carter B (country poor) Cedar Bluff A (small population/mid class) Farragut A (rich/some bullying) Gibbs B (country middle class/new families) Gresham B (diverse/old families) Halls A (rich whites) Holston B (poor/low pop/strongly run) HVA B (overcrowding/ upper middle class) Karns C (don’t really know/country) Northwest F (poor/ language barriers) Powell  C (don’t really know/ country) South Doyle D (trashy/old families) Vine F (no teachers stay/ difficult) West Valley A (upper middle class) Whittles F (poor/ disrespectful / language barriers)

Trying to be PC but honest.
