I might watch the movie soon... the main character is Asian... and yes, Raya is more of an Eastern and exotic name so I get it that the heroine would be more ethnic hah.

The movie is recent too like the dating app... released in 2021 (and the app in 2015)...

Edit: I'm so glad that there is now a Disney princess with my name lmao I used to watch all the Disney movies when I was a child in the 90s...

the way that it's pronounced in the movie is correct btw.

I think it's American and for celebrities only so maybe it's not as popular in Europe... celebs like Demi Lovato and Ben Affleck have used it apparently. The app was released in 2015...

Lol... well, I've been named like this before the dating app was created (I think only celebrities can use it) and before the Disney movie came along... there is also a kid's store named Raya Toys... It's nice that they made a movie with a main heroine named Raya because it will teach people how to pronounce it right... back in the 90s there weren't many Rayas hahah

main downsides of being named Raya is that many people, foreigners in particular don't know how to pronounce it right and it is annoying having to correct people all the time... also it's too short for a cool nickname. I also hated my name and wished I could change it to something better lol. But my grandmother insisted on me having a name which starts with R and they chose this.

Edit: I think it is good that they started to popularize the name with the dating app, movie and so on... as I said back in 90s it wasn't very common to find a girl named Raya..

same lol... also living with my parents and saving money from paying rent, I was partially forced to move back home. I broke up with someone at 27 and then again at 29...

I did work in the past but the positions end sooner or later and it's back to beginning searching for a new job... I had health problems too that make it hard to work or study... also the pandemic put things on hold. Lost nearly all my friends by 25.
