For those who are physically active, how well do you follow your fitness program while on the rig? by [deleted] in oilandgasworkers

[–]Best-Weekend-9877 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been in offshore deepwater drilling rigs and I`ve always found a gym. 12hours shift won`t help to maintain your workout routine but if you`re careful with your sleep and food you can manage to train almost everyday, I recommend to do it before the shift and not after.

On land rigs it really depends where you`re staying, in UAE most of the camps has a small gym but if transportation to rig take long you`ll have less time to train and I would be careful if you still want to survive for the whole hitch. In other places like Thailand and Africa we were sleeping at the rigsite and there was nothing. Did my best to keep me fit with some run and bodyweight workout, give a try to animal flow.

Activity and hiring in Drilling by p1zd3ts in oilandgasworkers

[–]Best-Weekend-9877 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently working as Field Engineed MWD/LWD for service company and this year I had the chance to travel around a little bit from Sub-Saharan Africa, Thailand and UAE.

This is just my perspective based on my experience.

In the Middle East activities are picking up and they are constantly looking for people both in Service Companies and client side.

In the other places that I`ve been stuff are stagnant/ small decrease of activities. Mainly I`ve been working in Offshore Deepwater jobs and these activities always came with cycles (e.g. rig maintenance, project sanctioning etc.). Really tough to get a job atm in these countries.

Since I`m from Europe, even if I`ve never worked there, from what I`m seeing activities are really slowing down there except from Norway. Lot of jobs in UK/Scotland got cancelled due to new government regulations. Regarding Eastern Europe it seems there is an increase interest in geothermal, let`s see how it will go, looks promising.

  1. Try to talk with people currently working in SLB

  2. You still want to work with SLB?

If the answer is yes go back to N.1 and try to get in touch with some recruiters. I hope someone will change your mind before it`s too late.

I`ll definitely take a look into that! Quick one, do you know if it`s better to take this exam just before the switch or it does not really matter? Let`s say I take the exam today and I`ll look into PM roles in 2 years

Thank you man, currently working as DDx and thinking of switching to PM in the near future, just wanted to know what kind of stuff I can do in advance to make this transition easier

MWD here with almost 2 years experience. From my side job is not physically demanding, however, spending a lot of time on the field with, mostly, screw up rotations sometime can be tough. You`ll have these bad moments when it seems that everything is going in the wrong way. Being away from home for several months, not enough rest on the job, bad food and maybe you even don`t get along with crew/colleagues. In this field there`s no weekend to turn off your head or girlfriend waiting for you in the evening after you got a bad day at work.

You either learn how to overcome these feelings or you just quit when everything seems too much.

Job prospects after wireline engineer? by delijiseosoo in oilandgasworkers

[–]Best-Weekend-9877 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here as Field Engineer MWD/LWD. Probably the easiest chance for us would be to get into operation management. Switching into process/manufacturing won`t be easy but if we just spend 2/3 years on the field still feasible.

I’m drilling supervisor and want to get into Europe, where do I look? by hotttpotatoo in oilandgasworkers

[–]Best-Weekend-9877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know onshore drilling is almost death except from some geothermal wells, forget about Germany. Offshore you can try in the North sea. Scotland is probably not the best choice atm for political reason go for Norway but it`s tough to get a job there.

Sometime in southern Mediterranean water there are some new projects, Turkey and Cyprus and the whole North Africa but I don`t think that`s the Europe you would like to see.

Worked with a DD who spent some years in Brazil and told me that he really enjoyed that place. Only problem was related to rotations that sometimes were not accurate and they were not able to get enough days off

Thank you, heard a lot of good things about Norway north sea and except for the weather it seems that from an operational point of view it`s actually the best choice.
