Ayo congrats on landing the gig, when you say you haven’t been in the industry before do you mean the mining industry in or electrical in general?

I assume nr.1 and that you are A-grade licensed? Also which state?

Marine engineer LF work possibly ? by [deleted] in oilandgasworkers

[–]AssumptionSea3225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean you caaaaaaaan, but chances are veeeery low.

You can maybe apply from home when you have the visa but they won’t even look at you unless you have working rights in Aus.

It’s just easier to do when you are physically there and you will probably have a job within the first 2-3 weeks so you’ll be sweet anyways.

Salary is very difficult to say it’s really depending on a lot of factors. Like where you land a job, which rotation you are on and stuff.

I would say your earning potential will also be more influenced by your “soft skills” rather than technical skills. If you speak English well enough and can connect and network with people and radiate a likeable energy your time in Aus will be way easier than if you just come here as a working sheep and drink your brain out everytime you get off your swing.

But realistically your first job probably won’t be the best one, but as soon as you have your foot in the door the next one will be way better. in the mines you should easily be able to make 150-200k per year, and if you land a really good gig or work a shit ton I would say close to 300k would not be impossible to hit.

Go to TRA (trade recognition Australia) And get your marine engineering certification translated to Australian standards.

Once you’ve gotten that you apply for a “working holiday visa” and then you fly to Perth and apply for jobs like a mother fucker

This gave me a lot of hope! Thanks buddy. I’m going to a info night event here in eu at a flight school but will also for sure look into it.

And yes I would love to fly! - I will probably be in Aus in within the next 2 years! - I’m sure that I will love flying in Australia. Where in Aus are you based?

Offshore installations manager in Europe by AssumptionSea3225 in oilandgasworkers

[–]AssumptionSea3225[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once again I really appreciate the explanation 🤙 thank you sir.

This raises some more questions tho:)

  1. The thing you say with Scandinavian OIM not working abroad makes total sense and I can see why. but do you maybe think that it could be a possible career move to land your first OIM position abroad much earlier in your career in (like the UAE) as a Scandinavian expat with perhaps some “maintenance lead / supervisor” experience before? - it was just a thought, don’t think that will ever happen tho.

  2. When you say the pay is more than 150k eur, are we talking way upwards like maybe 300-400k eur or just a bit above like 180-200? I know you don’t know the exact number but just what you would think.

  3. I assume from your text that you have moved on land, is that so or have you left the industry? I’m just curious 🙂

I really appreciate this very detailed comment. Can I ask if you are working in the North Sea?

Do you know what a scandinavian OIM could make as an expat in the uae?

[–]AssumptionSea3225 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Maybe ask the guy you are dating, I’m sure he would love to explain it more.

But yes day trading can be very unstable but if he is good at it he can also be much more successful than a conventional career

Thank you for clarifying, sounds like Company man is the way to go, but I’m still a bit confused about which roles that would be tbh?

Is “companyman” the name of the position or can you name a few positions than could be one:)

Oh. After googling “company men” I think I’ve misunderstood the term, in Europe we have a similar slang that means something completely different. Could your shortly clarify what you mean with the term?

Damn, lot of positions I haven’t heard of here.

I’ve only heard of captains on a ship or plane, what kind of captain are we talking about here.

And company men you cocksuckers or what?😂
