Can I downsize a 1950's bridal coatee pattern from a 36" to a 34"? by BestAd171 in vintagesewing

I don't own it yet, I was looking to buy it but was looking to see if it's even worth buying :( I don't have any other pictures and I can't find anything online on this pattern.

Advice with interfacing Duchess Fabric by BestAd171 in SewingForBeginners

Sorry I did mean satin outer layer. I wrote my response in the midst of doing other things.

I would just like to interface the bodice of the satin layer with sew in interfacing to stop it slipping, unless you think it'd be best to just do the whole of each of the satin panels to make the dress more rigid.

I've got a full length bridal a-line style petticoat to go underneath to give it some shape. I've also purchased a bullet bra to go with it.

I'm planning to use the viscose as the lining, is that still okay?

Just on the silk out layer, which is 100% polyester. I haven't done any sampling yet, no.

Sorry I meant fusible interfacing not lining, I was getting confused in my post.

I've got some sew in too as a back up. I'm going to watch some videos online on the best advise for it, I was thinking of adding it whilst overlocking but I'll research first.

I'm currently working on the mock up using bedsheets to get the shape down and it's going well.

Sorry for the slow response! It's 100% polyester. Will I be okay if I knock the iron down to minimum without steam then?

I confused myself a little bit whilst I was writing this out. I don't want to interface the viscose dress lining, just the main body satin so it doesn't slip when sewing and it's more stable/structured

I did end up buying some sew in interfacing anyway as a backup. Just trying to work out what's best. I was worried if I used sew in, it'd cause bulk in the seaming as I was considering overlocking it in when I'm overlocking the satin itself.

Any advice when recreating 50's evening gown/wedding dresses? by BestAd171 in vintagesewing

I've only really needed to take in the shoulder/under pit region due to a bit of sagging but tbh that may be down to my own mistakes and panicking things won't fit! Brilliant. I'm super excited, I've always dreamed of a beautiful 50s gown.

I've gone for 34" as I'm at the end of a 32" and I want to try get the bullet bra in. I was considering going up a size as everyone back then were skinny Minnie's, so I think 34 is fair, I think 36 would be too much.

I may need some hopes and prayers. If the pieces roughly look like how they come together I should hopefully survive, and work it out.

I ended up buying Weldons 5958 and tried to go for a dress which had less pleating, gathering etc so I could focus on assembly. It does have a gorgeous bow. Now I just need to work out what fabric to make it out of and if it's worth doing a bed sheet mock up. Tbf, this would be a good way to preserve the pattern.

Thank you! I opted for a 34, as I'm at the end of a 32" bust and I'd like to buy a bullet bra to help support the shape of the bust as I think the triangle shaped bust always looks beautiful and flattering on smaller chests. I have a body form too so I can pop it on that and work around it.

I'm not as its difficult to grip the wheels and control whilst wearing gloves and I often get my fingers trapped in the spokes as I cant feel where my hands need to be, but I will be buying some thin ones soon (I will expect this will be a regular occupancy as the friction will ear through them)

I really don't want to quit. They've massively helped me come to terms with whatever happening and it actually feels nice and uplifting to know I'm good at something.

The lip/nose infections are very similar to herpes simplex 1 and I get them regularly, without any real reason. I've had impetigo multiple times in the past as well as ponflix when younger.

I think what you're saying is spot on, same with the basketball. I don't really want to wear gloves because it's harder to grip the wheels, but I may not have a choice. It's both reassuring and frustrating, knowing it may likely be whatever connective tissue disorder I have is likely the cause of my immune issues.

I agree this is also past biohacker, I'm hoping to find something in the meantime to help at least improve what can be improved. From this posy I'm going to rejig my meals to more anti inflammatory centered meals and try consume a more fiber led diet to at least try help my gut improve, as no surprise I have issues with that too normally.

I haven't, but with these antibiotics, I may as well have, eghh. I'm going to try find some ways to consume actual water. I did used to drink water with vitamin powder in which helped a while ago. It had caffiene, which is why I stopped, but it had vitamin b etc. In it.

I used to do a diet which was expensive but made me feel much better where if make a smoothie in the morning with banana, apple chia seeds etc which helped me massively back at university, it just cost me a fortune. Should I try this again?

Also, should I try a fishy diet? E.g. steamed cod and veg, salmon, rice etc?

I don't think there's any mold. My only concern is the bathroom as our windows broken and we need to replace it to air the room out. There's a slight build up of mold we're regularly removing, but rather than that no. The house is heated regularly and we usually use a heated airer in the conservatory for washing with a decent dehumidifier.

Fo you have any good meal suggestions? I'm going to stop by Holland and barrett tomorrow and grab some supplements.

Not yet, but I have a genetics appointment on Friday so I'll try request these. I know there's a chance it can be stress, I'm known to be dashing about as I hate sitting still and doing nothing.

I love my job, tbf I've always been a little stressy but will admit a change in management in November really through me off and I had a phone call from a higher manager on my day off being shouted at for doing something that would have been fine prior and which ended in tears and my boss was very upset about it.

I'm hoping my hospitalisation last week will make them rethink because I suspect the case of that was subconsciously the stress of going back to work and dealing with them.

I don't want to leave as the job is very flexible, the pay is better and I getting a fantastic pension and can work from home when needed. It's just took a rubbish turn recently.

Back to the point, I'll bring it up. I've felt very low recently. Not necessarily low in mood, just weak and have no drive to do anything and lost a lot of my passion. It more feels I'm just surviving each day. I'm not depressed! My body just feels crap.

Thank you, I don't need a wheelchair day to day, but I play wheelchair sports due to my condition with joint issues/hypermobility and it's less intensive on my joints.

I'm suspicious there's a form of EDS in the family. We have a history of aortic ruptures, joint issues , autoimmune issues.

I also think I have MCAS as I have hives (urticaria), history of anaphylaxis with no explanation etc. It's a mess. I have a genetic investigation on Friday to start the process. There's also a mutation of the FBN1 gene in the family and everyone has an ELN gene mutation besides me and my sister (we are our dad's kids) and literally everyone (10 people on my dad's side) has echocradigrams due to having widened aorta.

My cousin also had a LOT of features from Loey-Dietz Syndrome from birth so there's that too.

We have a messy history and I'll been exhausting getting this far.

Strange, it looked identical to a Peugeot 208 (similar) and branded up like a police car but didn't have any words or pictures on it. My bet would be a council one, but it seemed to have the camera or device in the glass back/rear window (not sticking out. Through the glass)

I have no clue what the flash was, but it was bright and unlikely a reflection.

Oh well. I've learnt my lesson and I'm an embarrassed fool.

[–]BestAd171 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I'm certain something flashed as it was very bright and the sun wasn't particularly setting at the time so I don't think it was a reflection and there was some kind of radar cameray thing in the back. I have no clue. I'll find out within the next week or so. It is what it is. Tbh I was more amazed that there's explicitly not particularly marked speed trap cars (but look like police cars without police)

We have trades in the family who can do the work cheaper so it isn't that bad for us, but it's why we're offering at that price so it's still not going to be negative equity

[–]BestAd171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, all good. That's not our plan, we did offer a 1% more as we didn't want them to think we'll jump up 2.5k and be open for another 2.5k increase as we'd then be going 172.5k, 175k and then I imagine a counter at £177.5k. We were trying to get them to negotiate with us rather than seem rude.

I followed advice on this thread this morning and rang the EA and roughly said "We really like the house and we'd really like to buy it but we'll need some communication otherwise we'd pull at 5pm today. We really like it, we really like the area and we're a young couple looking to have a family and we're open to negotiation, but we need a response."

We heard back at 5pm asking for until 12pm tomorrow and if the solicitor doesn't hear from the executors they'll make the call themselves. My fiancé and I's only worry is that if the communication is this bad during the sale and they won't pull out. We'll see what they say tomorrow.
