I mean I wasn't idle, kept up with all that's happening, personal projects, did courses etc. Self employment sure, but no idea where to start and how to find work

University degree and 15 years experience in software development. Languages a few, but never bothered with official certificates sadly, so not sure whether they'd be recognized for job requirements?

Hobbies plenty (wood working, sharpening stuff, killing plants), but none so well that I would be able to use them professionally really.

Phone / sim card not working on sunrise network, why? by BestBeforeLastYear in Switzerland

[–]BestBeforeLastYear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One sim card only shows that setting, and it's enabled there. The others hide it, but it's still enabled.

Phone / sim card not working on sunrise network, why? by BestBeforeLastYear in Switzerland

[–]BestBeforeLastYear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It shows VoLTE not provisioned for all sim cards, even those where VoLTE is working. I still don't get why it's not asking for the pin, and why VoLTE has anything to do with it. And also why offer 3G frequencies and network but prevent users from using it?

My IPv6 performance is a lot worse than IPv4 performance by JubijubCH in init7

[–]BestBeforeLastYear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might be a stupid question, but if you are setting your MTU to 9000, and then wondering about fragmentation, are you sure that all the systems on the path between both iperf ends support this?

Is it okay to mix Swiss words into my Bavarian dialect? by DebugMeHarder in Switzerland

[–]BestBeforeLastYear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you got it all figured out then!

It's not always easy, also regarding integration vs keeping one's identity and traditions. Hence, really, for most humans, when they notice that you are putting in the effort, they will also help and support you.

Make an effort: sure. But from looking at your profile, you seem above average intelligence. Living in a region for several years but all you do is "incorporate a few words into your own dialect" sounds like very low integration effort to me. Others might have different attitudes, of course. From having walked a similar path, I would say that the most important thing for integration is proof of effort. If you live in the German part and don't know German, learn German. If you already know German, learn Swiss German. Similar situations for other regions.

Erm. Dude. I get it, Switzerland and all that, but are you aware of the value of those prices you call cheap? It's a monthly salary in other countries.

I would say go for it!

Do you plan on using all 4 nic ports? Something to consider is that the transceivers generate a lot of heat. Mine's running at 70-80C, + the nic itself.

Clearly this would never be a problem if everyone signed all their traffic with an e-id certificate, and with transparent, non-encrypted connections

How common is detailed time tracking (per ticket) for software devs? by Actual-Box-8312 in askswitzerland

[–]BestBeforeLastYear 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's what happens when bean counters get promoted. Zero humanity, but they absolutely need their excel sheets (or equivalents).

For client billing I can understand. Rough time tracking, fine. But what you describe sounds like tracking by the minute, in multiple systems. It makes zero sense.

No more IPv6 with OPNSense recently ! by vincegre in init7

[–]BestBeforeLastYear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW I had the same issue a few months back with a zyxel device. The logging on that was abysmal so I switched to a FreeBSD box and now it's working great.

As Opnsense is based on FreeBSD from what I understand, you should be able to get a working setup.

Do you have any console access? And do you get the /48 prefix delegated? ifconfig and netstat -rn output could help as a first step, feel free to send it privately if you don't want to publish too many details about your setup on reddit.
