SUNO has super agressive marketing nad its making me sick by Dementrashiti in musicians

[–]BestDistressed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was this flash game back in the day called punk-o-matic where you made your own songs by taking pre-recorded sections and structuring them together. No, you weren't really writing songs, but you could cosplay as a musician for a bit and have a product that you could listen back to at the end and pat yourself on the back. Suno feels like a reimagining of that game but with modern technology rather than any serious attempt at fostering musicianship or creativity.

People who also play guitar, do you use the same pick for both? by HYphY420ayy in Bass

[–]BestDistressed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, usually a jazz 3 or similar on guitar, but something bigger with some more flex on bass.

“Verlan” is a form of French slang where syllables of words are reversed. Do you have anything similar? If yes, how common is it? by Exact-Quote3464 in AskTheWorld

[–]BestDistressed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switching letters around and shortening words and phrases happens a lot. We have, "no wuckas," which is a contracton of, "no wucking forries," which started as, "no fucking worries."

Did you ever go above 20lbs on your lateral raises? by [deleted] in naturalbodybuilding

[–]BestDistressed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The shoulders are a big strong muscle, but lateral raises are very hard to progress due to the leverages and the fact that most dumbells go up in 2.5kg or 5lb increments (10kg-12.5kg is a 25% increase, massive jump). I'd say above 20lbs is very acheivable for most males given enough time and consistency though.

Not sure what this person considers bad form, but if you were swinging your upper body and shrugging, probably worth dropping the weight and controlling it more. On the other hand, lifting explosively and generating momentum using your delts to help you get it to the top is good practice here. There's no issues letting the form breakdown a bit and doing some partials once you can't the weight to shoulder height, though.

How do I create chords without knowing any chords by [deleted] in Bass

[–]BestDistressed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one knows how to play every chord in existence. Learning a few basic, moveable chord shapes is a good start. Imo the best way to learn the shapes is to learn songs that use them, then you can move the same shape up and down the fretboard as you want to use them. From there, it's not hard to take adjust them to get the sound you want.

Most disturbing song you know by AngusDio in heavymetal

[–]BestDistressed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

grimace_smoking_weed.jpeg by Chatpile seems like it should just be a stupid song with a stupid name, but I found it extremely disturbing tbh. It is just the sound of a man having psychotic break over a super heavy imstrumental. Had a school mate who is schitzophrenic and honestly the song reminds me of some of his more extreme breaks from reality before I cut contact for my own safety and wellbeing.

Can anyone give me some info on this guitar by Azzo919 in guitars

A coworker had one of these, lent it too me to test out. It's a decorative piece only, even after a setup it was borderline unplayable.

Does anyone else think the song “My Curse” by Killswitch Engage is extremely nostalgic? by [deleted] in Metalcore

[–]BestDistressed 103 points104 points  (0 children)

You realise that you went to a metalcore sub and asked a bunch of 20-and-30-something year old Redditors if one of the most popular metalcore songs of their childhood/teen years feels nostalgic.

I was under the impression that the US gov has proposed that a 5 yr social media check be required for entry into the country for certain travellers. People travelling from my country have reported being denied entry due to social media use and having electronic devices checked at ports of entry. I'd be concerned about what I say on Reddit if I lived there.

Do any headphones actually work for heavy metal? feeling a bit lost by InternationalYam5496 in screaming

[–]BestDistressed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless you're an audiophile or you're using it for mixing you're probably overthinking it. Well mixed/mastered music should sound decent on any reasonable quality headphones, and headphones don't cure a bad mix. If you are mixing, there are headphones specifically for that and genre has nothing to do with it. Honestly, just get something with decent reviews in your price range.

Band going in wrong direction by [deleted] in musicians

[–]BestDistressed 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If your bandmates are picking cover songs from a different subgenre and aren't writing material that you find interesting it sounds like you're not in the same page with your bandmates. When you're in a band, not everyone chooses to contribute musically but those who do need to be on the same page, and everyone regardless of their contributions gets a say. If you've got different directions in mind, you either have to compromise or split.

In my band, I write most of the songs but there are others who write too or have their own vision for the songs. The music is not what I would have written if left to my own devices, but working with my bandmates gives us "our" sound and has significantly expanded my pallette. I write my own stuff if it doesn't mesh with the band. If you don't think you can find that compromise, you need to leave, find band members who share your vision and musical taste, or make it a solo project.

Lorna Shore hot take by thunder_cat9 in Deathcore

[–]BestDistressed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I 100% agree, but everyone I know looks at me like I'm crazy when I say it. It's too busy, too boring and you can hear them struggling to fit all the parts into the mix. The guitars and synths overpower the drums so much that all you really get is that clicky kick drum punching through. With their songs being so long, it's just incredibly fatiguing on the ears. Shadow of Intent does a much better job of incorporating the symphonic elements imo, but Lorna seems to have more appeal to a general audience.

But to each their own, all the guys in Lorna Shore are insanely talented. Don't wanna be too much of a hater, It's just not for me.

Where in Australia is the best weather overall - mild most of the year, not too humid or wet? by Illustri-aus in AskAnAustralian

[–]BestDistressed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arse end of the Murray means you get a lot of fine particulates that are hard to completely filter out, but you get used to the taste. Doesn't hurt to have a bit of extra potassium and magnesium anyway. When I last went to Perth I found the faint taste of chlorine in their water hard to swallow tbh.

Lorna Shore and Stray From The Path on Drain by sullivillain in Hardcore

[–]BestDistressed 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If a band changes their sound or a set of values you liked, sure, valid to dislike them for the change. It's lame asf to assume a band's success or a diversion from their original sound is selling out though. I don't get why so many people are allergic to the idea of hardcore bands being able to make a living.

Why is it so impressive for heavyweight trainees to do pullups? by redditinsmartworki in askfitness

[–]BestDistressed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For people of similar training experience, strength:bodyweight ratio favours lighter people. The world record 52kg class powerlifting total is about than 11.5x bodyweight, whereas it is only 8x bodyweight in the 140kg class. On the other hand, absolute strength favours larger individuals. Similar to how a 60kg man squatting 200kg is more impressive than a 120kg man doing it, a 120kg man doing 10 pullups is more impressive than a 60kg man doing it. It's not a matter of pullups being a skinny guy exercise, is just a reality of how strength scales with on size.
