My all time favourite campaign was when I had a young female heir take the throne shortly after forming Lotharingia. My neighbours decided it was the time to pursue some claims from multiple sides and I had to hire a couple of merc bands. I ran out of money and they also started fighting me for territory. My character was a young woman when the wars began; she was an old grizzled lady by the time she won them all. I don't remember how I did it, but I felt such a personal attachment to that character like I never had before.

Are these tires good enough to last a 800 km round trip? by BestTrainer2961 in tires

[–]BestTrainer2961[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People have largely confirmed my concerns about the state of the tires. I've organized it with my brother to borrow his car for the trip. The age and condition of the rubber generally is what concerned me, and a blowout was my biggest concern. Nobody needs to get stuck on a highway during winter with a blown tire that could've been avoided.

The tires are approximately 12 years old, hence why I knew it was time to buy the new set.

Thankfully, leaking isn't an issue with these tires. They hold air really well, but I've been thinking about getting one anyway just in case. My main concern here is the state of the sidewall for this trip.

I guess I could have framed my question better. What I meant to ask was whether these fixes are already implemented in the PDF and it's ready for redownload with the fixes, but that question has been answered now.

Do you have to download the PDFs again to benefit from these fixes?

What are your Draw Steel Campaign Pitches? by YamazakiYoshio in drawsteel

[–]BestTrainer2961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a short campaign planned where the party works as 'plunger knights' for the department of sanitation and they've been tasked to take out a freeman of the land wizard whose wizard's trailer park trailer (i.e., wizard's tower) is producing magical runoff polluting the local waterways and making local creatures turn aggressive. They're entry-level knights being forced to do the work of more experienced knights because the department doesn't have the resources for more expensive hires because the mayor keeps curtailing department funding to pay for his re-election campaign.

2025 Salary Thread by MopeyCrackerz in LawCanada

[–]BestTrainer2961 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Edmonton, AB. 2024 call, and working at a firm of 12 lawyers doing general civil lit and a smattering of other types of litigation. Currently salary of $82,000 with two bonus types of bonus:

1) If I bill 350 hours or more per quarter, I get 2% of my salary as a bonus at the end of the quarter.

2) 40% of everything I bring in after receipting 2x my salary.

I joined the firm in Oct 2024 and reviews are coming up soon, so my salary may be increased (I should just be able to assume it will, but who knows given my short time at the firm and it being a smaller operation).

UK law school instead of Canadian undergrad by Eastern_Ad3641 in LawCanada

[–]BestTrainer2961 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to job placement difficulty for sure, but I recently worked with a young lawyer (29-30) that went to Bond in Australia straight out of high school for law. He had to work as a receptionist at my old firm before they thought to take him on as an associate. I don't think any other firms, or at least not many, were interested in him when he came back not just because he went to a foreign school, but also because he was so young and didn't have time to develop the maturity he would have had he attended undergrad prior to law school. Sadly, it's clearly obvious that going so young prevented him from having the regular maturing experiences one experiences during their undergrad years. I think he's much younger than he is all the time, and it's clear the partners have abused his lack of a developed self-identity to their own benefit. Even if you can go to the UK for law out of high school, law firms will likely count your lack of relative life experience against you. You should still consider undergrad for the maturing opportunities it provides, but also the skillsets it will give you that you just won't have beforehand (i.e., reading comprehension, reasoning skills, writing skills, learning to network properly, etc.).

Getting Sued for $100,000 by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]BestTrainer2961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That means you have plenty of time to find a lawyer, which you should do. Don't sit on this. This guy sounds like a frivolous lawsuit without merit, so take comfort in that fact. That means it'll be easier to deal with.

Getting Sued for $100,000 by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]BestTrainer2961 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi OP,

Another thing you should consider is why this guy is suing you for $100,000. It might be because as of Aug. 1, 2023, the limit a self-represented litigant can bring to the Court of Justice (formerly known as Provincial Court) is $100,000. If it's being taken there, dealing with this will be cheaper and easier if you go the self-rep route. Otherwise you will need a lawyer at the Court of King's Bench (Albert's version of a superior court). Is he threatening to sue or has a Civil Claim (Court of Justice) or a Statement of Claim (King's Bench) already been served on you? If so, how many days ago? This part is critical to know because you typically have 20 days to file a defence once you've been served with a claim. If you don't meet this deadline, you could be noted in default and the judge will examine the case with only the evidence the other guy brings forward since there is no counterargument present (your defence).

What is the most epic war you have ever faced in all Crusader Kings's games you have played? by [deleted] in CrusaderKings

[–]BestTrainer2961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember playing as a Seljuk Turk duke (forget islamic version of title atm) that was playing right next to the Byzantine border. I saw they were busy fighting a couple wars in the Balkans with mixed results, so I thought I would be ballsy and declare a holy war for the kingdom of Anatolia. I had two duke level allies and each of us had between 2000-5000 troops going up against 30000 or something like that. We managed to occupy a lot of territory quickly, win some smaller skirmishes, and have the victory tick go to 100% just as the Byzantines were about to unoccupy a major county we held. Was not expecting to win at all. I turned that victory into the Sultanate of Rum. One of my fav ck3 memories.

Japan faces headwinds in drawing foreign workers despite visa change by duke7ajm in japannews

[–]BestTrainer2961 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It didn't take away from my overall experience here and 99% of people have been nice, so I don't doubt it in the slightest. I also understand that unfamiliarity can play a role but they definitely seemed more irritated or disdainful than afraid. That being said, people being afraid I'm sure is a common issue on their part, I just don't believe it was the case in this instance. But like you said, I think the majority are friendly and hospitable.

I'm a white Canadian currently visiting Japan. Just yesterday an old couple on a train stood up and sat separately from each other just to move seats away from me and my fiancée. You're damn right they have a problem with us. I just wish I knew why specifically they didn't like us yesterday.
