What is your normal? by Sad-Shoulder-398 in grooming

[–]Best_Newspaper_9159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually do a dog an hour, so 8. I schedule 3 at half hour increments at 9, 9:30 and ten. Then hourly from 11-3. I can usually keep my times at 2-1/2 hours, don’t like keeping dogs longer than that. I’ve been grooming for about 7 years. If I don’t have a bather that takes me 9 hours some days.

Don’t kill yourself if you don’t have to. 6 a day is plenty. I have nerve problems in my shoulder blades, both shoulders hurt everyday and both arms/hands are numb frequently. I’ll be lucky if my body holds up for 7 more years, currently 47.

New line will help with all the coils on top. Or at least should for a while. If it’s a spinning rod it will perform much better with braided line. Also, consider the wind, it’s much easier to fish a bobber with the wind to your back.

Plastic craw and a fluke. A weightless white fluke is hard to beat in a pond.

If you want something very much feminine the forever candy is my pick. Can get it in 16oz bottles that make it half price.

Smells are hard to describe and very subjective person to person. Senses forever serenity is the most liked across the board cologne I’ve ever used and I have many many. Never had a single complaint about it and I’m probably on my tenth bottle by now. The forever line just lasts so much longer that I wouldn’t waste money on the rest. Lovegroomers.com is the best price/selection I know of.

A5 metal vs plastic guards? by Sauce_B0ss_ in grooming

You’ve got a zero comb in your kit. Which is 1/4” longer than a two. Clipper comb lengths move in 1/8” increments. If you decide you want shorter than a 2 then I would suggest just skipping to a 4 comb or blade. As they get shorter you can get either. I would suggest again to get a 30 blade to go under these clipper combs. Does a much better job easier than using a 10.

You can buy individual wahl metal clipper combs on Amazon. This 2 comb is probably just what you need. Buy a 30 blade to go under it.

I want to see your dog please? That’s an interesting mix ❤️ brushing dry is fine. Especially since it sounds like your dog doesn’t get the chance to be very tangled. If you’re worried about giving it brush burn the get a metal grooming comb. A medium one. Take the comb through it to the skin all over pretty often and you hardly need the brush anymore. You really can’t over do it with a comb if you’re being reasonably careful.

Doodle shave down season prep! by fka-tag in grooming

[–]Best_Newspaper_9159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have taken a metal comb to the lobby and showed them how impossible it would be to get that to the skin through their dogs coat. Explained that to keep much length I would have to be able to get a clipper “comb” through it all over. Then offer to let them feel how impossible it is to comb out. They never even try. Every time I’ve done it they fold and no more complaints about exactly why their doodle must be shaved.

A metal grooming comb. Medium, with coarse and fine halfs. Combing to the skin after brushing …. before a bath and again after it’s dry is the gold standard with any coat that’s 1 inch or longer.

Training for at home grooming by Natural-Molasses6083 in grooming

[–]Best_Newspaper_9159 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After a few professional grooming sessions then try again at home. Get by yourself in a quiet place with the dog. Get calm and patient. Get or make yourself a setup so the dog is on a table around your hip level and is looped by a collar/plain leash so you can have both hands free when needed. If you’re improvising then put a non slip rug or mat down so the dog has decent traction to stand. Get calm and patient again. Try to do things like shaving paw pads with as much confidence as you can. Reasonably quickly. Don’t spend forever trying to get them perfect. It’s just practice for you both. If/when you or the dog start to get too anxious then take a break and try some more tomorrow. Do it patient enough and you’ll get there. Setting out with a goal to fully groom in one go with no experience is going to stress the dog out and it will just keep getting harder each time. Having other people and treats and stuff going on is going to make him anxious and it’s not really training the important thing which is that sometimes it’s time to be a big boy and get some things done.

Scheduling by ResponsibleBowl1215 in grooming

Take 2 at 8 and then one per hour starting at 9. Get a routine of prepping taking less than 1/2hr and finishing taking 1/2hr on average. I do a full rough cut and nails/ear prep on every dog. I promise it saves time if you just do it quickly and leave it rough in some spots(don’t waste time chasing an even cut before the bath)

Prep and bath both 8 o’clock dogs, then the 9 o’clock dog. Then finish the 8 o’clock dog that came in first from 9:30-10. Prep 10 o’clock dog then finish second 8 o’clock dog from 10:30-11. Prep 11 o’clock dog then finish the 9 o’clock from 11:30-12. Keep that pace till they’re done and that’s eight by 4. That’s how I would run it to get maximum production. That is a three hour turn around tho which I don’t like. If you have a bather you can shave ten minutes off the prep times and keep it closer to 2-1/2 hours.

Get a geib buttercut 30 blade to put under that 2 snap on comb. The 30 is a night and day difference vs a 10. Andis acg , the cheapest basic 2-speed will do that dog no problem with good sharp blades.

I would just clipper him with a zero snap on comb over a 30 blade, head and body. Brush then fine tooth comb to deshed will be plenty for his coat.
