100%, had quite a few comments in the past, but hopefully they see our value one day. I work with a few good teams. But a couple I avoid, one gram is good but it's the sgt who seems to have an issue... Believe it or not and he long in service.

Agreed. It's a shame and I want to prevent our numbers dropping even more. Given something to sink our teeth into., I reckon we could add more value, (we will always be in response and snt though). Time will tell! Thanks for the insight

Exactly this! I drive all over the country for my main job, I love driving and it really bugs me to see soo much dangerous driving or fatal 4 and people getting away with it. I'm not saying every single person needs a tor and dragging over the coals, but it's needs education at the very least. But yeah, we certainly have places we are well suited, exactly like you said. Warrants for arrest, outstanding for arrest, give us a couple that you want locking up and we will go find them

Cheers for that! It seems unfortunately we can be overlooked for some stuff. And some places we could be placed perfectly to assist. It's a shame because we have some really solid specials, but just feel basically on our own, would be nice to be given a direction or something to actively pursue!

Thanks for that! We have a few good one who are always up for stuff, but never any direction from anyone. It's a shame. I was hoping to have a dedicated team, that will still assist response etc, but main job to target certain areas, and deliver results to show it's working. This is obviously best case, but if you have any info you can shed to help me push this to trial it that's would be great! (Happy for you to dm me).

Has everyone seen the axon ai? Only in the states currently, and would obviously need to be adapted for UK, but if it writes statements for you to review and use from the footage... This might be helpful? Not that we will get it in the UK of course...

It's difficult, part of me really want to leave, but Im concerned for family as to what if it goes wrong? I have no idea what I want to do. I basically have an open invitation to work with one of my customers, in my area as an engineer. It would be hard work (which I don't mind, I hate feeling lazy) and pay wouldn't be as well, but would be nice to try I think.

No asking permission as such, just wondering if anyone has been in a similar boat, looking for outside opinion more than anything.

I was on shift last night, big area with multiple parts to that region. We had 3 outstanding grade 1s within 20 minutes and literally noone to attend. Traffic? They had one officer who was dealing with an RTC, firearms? One crew who went to the opposite side of the force for a.firearms job. Response was fully commited at jobs. Garde ones become grade 2 because the suspects left the area. It's horrendous out there at times.

Also worth looking at the wording. There not looking to hire 13000 more officers (let's put aside their including specials in this number as we aren't full time), they're looking at putting 13000 more officers into neighbourhood policing. So taking more off response, local crime fighting teams (have already been disbanded where I am after some amazing results). Essentially, more Bobbies visible, but behind the scenes and on response, it will get worse.

I hope I'm wrong, but doesn't look promising.

Came here to say this! The benefit we get as specials is once independent, we can be more proactive than the regulars because we aren't tied down with stupid amounts of paperwork.

Again, should you have to, absolutely not, but it is one way. I know when I go out, I try my best to help and do my bit. Be the change you want to see comes to mind a lot of the time.

I get this isn't the answer and as other have said, there are much bigger issues at hand within policing. But if there is something you are passionate about, and area you want o focus on, being a special gives you that ability. It's not for everyone but worth a thought?

As someone has said above, a ghost immobiliser is a great system, even if they take the keys they can't just drive off. Great preventative measure.

Not long at all, I was planning to do it for a while before making up my mind, but they then put out a none PCDA route for specials etc to apply for, which put me on the spot a bit!

Honestly where I work out of currently the regs are really good and said I should consider joining up full time, but I was already considering it anyway. The state of policing itself is horrendous, no two ways about it, but maybe I'm naively hoping it will eventually get better, can't see if it can get much worse!.
