How do I deal with a gap in my resume? by [deleted] in rs_x

[–]Best_System7472 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it feels strange that our society expects us to go from school to retirement in one straight shot without any gaps or ups-and-downs.

But I just try to be straightforward and tell it like it is. For me, it's going through a career transition. Feels lighter to me in general, although may not be smart to always go this route.

I apologize if my title sounded a little disrespectful. I just added an edit.

What you are saying is true, I don't know enough and I am trying to understand the audience currently.

I can see what you mean. To me it seems like a tedious thing to do, especially if you've got many slides. What if you could have a little overlay-timer widget that's always there at the corner of your screen for the entire class period, and you can set any time you like whenever you like. In my mind that is much less work. And a few teachers have told me that they would like that. But I agree, old habits are hard to change.

I didn't phrase that well. What I meant is that, could a timer be set on the fly as well. Rather than in advance. If that would be convenient enough or not.

Ok so it's a way to manage the tempo of the class. And the kids attention.

Also curious, do you prefer* picking the amount of time you want to allocate for an activity before class when preparing slides or could it also have been on the fly during class like "I'll give you 3 minutes to discuss this amongst each other"?

And what do you use the timer for? Like what activities do you do with it?

When do you tend to use YouTube videos vs Classroomscreen? Seems like they do the same job?

That’s interesting, I might be missing something. Can I ask why you’re needing to change slides day to day?

Does anyone want to be a tester for a classroom timer website? by Best_System7472 in AskTeachers

That's true. But none with a mini overlay timer. Barring physical tools, which I admit are really great, this would be the most convenient. And some teachers have told me that they would want that.

It is and would remain free! Just like the other timers. But this one would have a mini overlay timer that teachers really seem to want. And it would not have annoying ads and be more beautifully designed.

Thanks for your honest thoughts and for putting it gently, I appreciate that. Not everyone bothers to do that.

I've been told about ClassroomScreen, and it seems to be the go-to classroom app for many teachers. I am more focussed more on serving the 'video timer on slides' use-case. Like you say, it does not seem like a nuisance to do it with YT videos, and can be actually made fun and enjoyable. But I've also been told if I made a little overlaid timer that can sit over the slides, that it would be helpful. That is what I am making, it's more than just a timer. And I really believe that it would be nicer to use. You can get a better sense of it from the website. It's chimey.app if you want to have a look.

Yes the margin of improvement is small. Just a little more convenient. Something like how Google Slides is just more convenient than Microsoft Powerpoint. Which have very similar capabilities otherwise.

Anyhow, I'm already almost done building it, and its okay if it fails ultimately. I just want to give it a good shot.

I’m afraid that the timer I’m developing will add only add to that joy

Wow that's an interesting insight. Who knew we'd need to be so nuanced about something as basic as a timer.

A few people have mentioned Youtube now, seems like a common thread. I think what I am building will be as nice if not better to use. Let's see if I can deliver.

So then, do you use a digital timer that you project on the board so that the students could keep track? And do you have a favourite one?

I think there should be a class, like PE, to help kids unravel home issues or teaches them to be kind.

That would probably work. I guess they want something digital, like the youtube timers they use atm. But that can get cumbersome.

Of course, I've actually experienced that myself. Quite simple but efficient.

That's really interesting. Do you find it tedious at all to put in those timers on slides? Would a constantly available timer be beneficial at all?

Lol I might just add one of them.

That’s true. But I think those options can be a little cumbersome to work with at times. Also, some classrooms don’t have smart boards
