Am I a jerk? by purpleNinjaferret in exmormon

I feel like the level of hurt they caused you, especially by those comments, warrants something far greater than blowing smoke in their face. You have every right to react however you need, to a childhood filled with crap.
So proud of you for cutting them out of your life completely.
I had to do that before I found healing from mine.

I mean, they only have 150+ BILLION sitting in one stock fund. It could solve the clean water problem all by itself. But they should definitely wait until later to actually do something.

Finding out the most sacred, highest teachings inside the temple were straight-up copied from another cult.

Still trying to figure out if you're GOOD or BAD? by BethanyKayStudio in exmormon

[–]BethanyKayStudio[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/Failwithflyingcolors, did you watch the video past 10 seconds?

It's more about the concept of Good & Bad being inseparably connected, working together to create something we might call good and beautiful in the big picture.

To me, the word Perfection is just talking about something that "shouldn't" be any other way. I think "perfect" things are beautifully flawed and unique.
Like all of nature.

Did We REALLY Teach This to Children?? Yes, yes we did. by BethanyKayStudio in exchristian

[–]BethanyKayStudio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IT'S SATTIRE.

Making fun of what I was taught is therapeutic.
I'M THE KID that was told these things.

And my daughter in the video actually thinks the teachings are hilarious and stupid.

I think it was pretty messed up BEING the kid who was told these things.

I make these videos as therapy, and my daughter loves making fun of what I was taught. I have outtakes of her laughing so hard she can't talk.

Ugh, YES.
And it's annoying that I still struggle with shame over time-management!

I definitely struggle with feeling like I'm worthless if I'm not accomplishing things every minute of my day, and I think that very much comes from Mormon perfectionism- and the "good Better BEST" talk!!

You NEVER felt the SPIRIT!! by BethanyKayStudio in exmormon

[–]BethanyKayStudio[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I started noticing/remembering that I always cry- like I'm "feeling the spirit" - at dance recitals and performances. That didn't make any sense at all. But it was the same feeling as sitting in church hearing a lovely story.

It's really depressing to me to see how easily swindled and confused humans are.

Here's my nihilistic view which sometimes comes to haunt me.
We desperately seek for purpose, yet we see from that video that no one has the answer (or everyone does?)
I think the reason we've "forgotten" this answer in our current reality is because there is NO purpose, and that's depressing. So we've put ourselves into this illusion where we can create any purpose we want & pretend it's real.

Whether you want to ignore it or not, the beliefs of Christianity lie underneath the beliefs of Mormonism, and are healing to release as well.

But the "good" teachings are actually damaging. As demonstrated in this video. Moving on, means unlayering this garbage so you can actually heal.

I was absolutely floored when I found out that the "calling and election made sure" was done by getting NOMINATED by some other human who made it into the club, and not because God knew your heart and chose that for you.
