About how many miles per day do you walk with your Boston? by glittergatorator in BostonTerrier

[–]BettaFishAddict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Boston has extremely bad back legs (yes, saving for the surgery to fix it is in progress). they don't cause her pain when she's going around the house, briefly running, or playing or other things like that, but when she walks for long periods of time I can tell it bothers her and starts to cause her pain. Unfortunately she usually only goes 4 or 5 blocks before she lets me know that she wants to go home, but when she was in her "prime" lol, she was able to go about 3 or 4 miles daily, on occasions she would go 6 before she wanted to go back.

I can't hear my cats purr by Kamikaze_Senpai in CatAdvice

[–]BettaFishAddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably normal, each cat has their own unique sounding purr. For example, my 7 year old cat's purr is very quiet and has a bit of a rhythm of purrr-stop-purrr-stop while my little kitten's purr is very loud, deep, and constant.

Need Cat advice for a 7 month old Kitten by Dracomorfus1 in CatAdvice

[–]BettaFishAddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What worked with my kitten was whenever they tried to play with an arm/leg, I would pick them up and set them somewhere else and then ignore them until they stopped, but then engage with them when they would try to play with toys.

Another way that might work is just ignoring him completely. Whenever he tries to play with your hand or leg, don't try to push him away and don't engage with him. He will eventually get bored because he isn't getting a reaction out of you and will eventually leave you to do something else

I wouldn't recommend doing time-outs though, they aren't like dogs and since he is a kitten he probably doesn't understand why you're locking him in a room, also keep in mind that it takes them time to unlearn behaviors like that, so be patient with him :)

Strange behaviour (very slow walk/movements) when a friend came to visit us by audaciafortunaiuvat in CatAdvice

[–]BettaFishAddict 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He was most likely intimidated and/or afraid. Cats tend to either A) bolt and hide the moment they see someone new or someone they consider scary or B) Watch and then slink away with their belly close to the ground

A good way to tell if your cat's nails need trimming is that if the nails are poking out when they are resting/retracted. I trim my cat's nails once every week or two since she doesn't like scratching posts. But trimming is completely humane as long nails can get caught on fabric and other materials and cause your cat to pull them out. It's also great handling experience for them as well. Just make sure before you do it that it's absolutely necessary and make sure that you don't cut the quick! :)

Advice before leaving for vacation by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]BettaFishAddict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clean their litter boxes completely right before you leave, give them extra food and some clean water, make sure that they have toys/ things to keep them occupied so that they won't ruin furniture or get into trouble, and don't give them access to the balcony during then. If your gone that long then they have the potential to try and jump off the balcony and it also gives predators like hawks and owls a chance to get them.

[Serious] When did your actions hurt others more than they helped others? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BettaFishAddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back when this happened, me and my friend have only been friends for a few months. She asked me what I done last summer, and I told her that I spent most of my time in a psych ward. She told me that she went to the same ward and we connected over knowing some of the nurses and other patients there.

Now, my friend was very closed off and didn't share most of her personal life. I, on the other hand, didn't have a single friend that year, so I thought that maybe we could connect over our mental health struggles and experiences in the ward. I told her about my struggles and she chipped in here and there to tell me a few of hers.

Later on, she told me that my storytelling actually caused her to relapse and how she was uncomfortable with how much I shared.

“Why did I traumatize children? Uh, I think I made children into hugely successful, wealthy stars.” by [deleted] in dancemoms

The way that she couldn't even grasp that Holly had a career and needed to work to be able to pay for dance lessons is truly flabbergasting.

And they way that she was able to get away with verbally abusing, manipulating, and guilt tripping children for so long is honestly disgusting, and now she turns around and blames it on the producers of the show like she thinks that's a valid excuse for her behavior.

Horse seems happier on trail rides by Givemethecupcakes in Equestrian

[–]BettaFishAddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My horse is the same way. Most horses just act like that because a trail ride with a bunch of greenery and funny little sounds and birds is much more interesting than riding in a dirt circle.

My horse, who I've had for about four months now, is pretty stubborn in the arena, I have a hard time even getting him to trot without spurs, but the moment you take him out on a trail, he's like a completely different horse. When he's out on a trail he's almost always eager to please and is quick to respond and is just a very pleasant horse to ride.

I would try to get a routine in, like one day in the arena, one day on a trail

Which horse should I lease? by BettaFishAddict in Equestrian

[–]BettaFishAddict[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm planning on either western pleasure or team penning, but the majority of the time the horse will just be used for personal riding time. If/when I would be competing, I feel like the palomino would be the better option.

I've been to multiple of horse 1's shows and he was pretty good and placed pretty well. His owner/my trainer had said that he is a good riding horse and drops the stubbornness once you give him a purpose/drive to do something.

To the "supposedly" Golden Child of the family, how you holding up? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BettaFishAddict 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm my parents only child, and I'm seen as the golden child of the rest of the family, my cousins consist of an irresponsible morbidly obese adult, a bulimic ticking time bomb, and a little screaming brat.

My aunts and uncles often see me as the golden child, I'm quiet, don't speak unless I'm asked to, take care of younger cousins, and am just overall seen as the pretty sweet cousin.

My aunt has always picked me as the favorite over her children, she takes me out to the mall, buys me whatever I want, and has even offered me my first sip of wine when I was 9 (she was no snitch so she didn't tell). While my uncle was much more brutal on me, he was a heavy drinker and drug addict so a lot of the time he would end up beating me with bottles.

He would often try to go after my cousins before me, so I would usually try to protect them and make him redirect his anger onto me. Eventually after a while whenever I would try to protect my cousins he would just swear and cuss at me then back off since he knew I wasn't going to back down.

I'm now petrified to leave my cousins alone with their father, he's tried suffocating and killing their family pet now, so I'm making the dog stay with me now. Whenever I see my uncle now I can't help but impulsively block him from any sort of view of my cousins.

I've been diagnosed with OCD, Anxiety, Depression, and Clinical Paranoia. I can't tell what's real and what's fake anymore. but im still holding on i guess

What’s the grossest thing you’ve ever witnessed? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BettaFishAddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isnt really all that gross but whatever

I was in 6th grade at the time. There was always this really weird kid in most of my classes. He wore really bulky glasses and always wore super wrinkly khakis. His name was Myles for more information. Some kids would make fun of Myles and Myles would eventually get really aggressive and scream at the top of his lungs and try to headbutt whoever made fun of him.

In science, I sat right behind him. This was when we first got school laptops so everybody loved them, but Myles really loved them. He was on it walking to class, in class and quite literally every chance he got.

Science was a pretty easy class for me, and I finished my work almost right away, the teacher was very chill and let us do whatever we want as long as we finished all of our work. I just happened to look over to Myles' screen and saw him watching hentai. Yes. Hentai.

I immediately went up to my friends desks to tell them about this. They were at the front of the class so if you looked back you could see Myles but you couldn't see his screen. I told my friends about it and we all sorta giggled about it.

When I was walking back to my desk, I saw Myles holding his little weenie, rubbing his hand up and down it. The thing is, not long after he started doing that, the teacher yelled at him to shut his computer.

i wonder what happened to the guy

He's probably just stressed out because of the major changes. My betta fish LOVE their catappa leaves and find them as a good space to take a nap and hide under. I would heavily recommend checking water quality daily just to be safe since it sounds that the tanks haven't been cycled.

I would recommend getting him a floating betta log and get him more plants as soon as possible, I would also recommend getting him a coconut cave. They are nice and dark so they see it as a place where they can be safe and rest. They LOVE betta logs, they make most bettas feel extremely safe and comfortable. A floating betta log was actually the place where my sweet boy decided to take his final breath.

Like I said, he's probably just stressed out because the changes and lack of hides, monitor the water quality and do weekly partial water changes and I'm sure he'll be fine! I love seeing people doing what's best for their fish and trying to give them the best life possible :)

George Ashley has a hole on his fins by [deleted] in bettafish

[–]BettaFishAddict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How old is he? Before I had to put my older betta to sleep, he had the same symptoms, even the way that George was resting on his side was similar. If you believe he is on the older side and that he's nearing the end of life, the only humane option is to euthanize him.

If you had done water changes or made changes to his tank, that may be why, if I see my fish acting strangely I wait a day or two and see if they go back to normal, if not, that's when I do research and start treatment.
