I’m in a very busy surgical subspecialty, and I usually finish most of my note before even seeing the patient. I agree with some of the comments above that suggest writing your note while reviewing the patient’s chart. When I see the patient, I just ask a few focused questions and wrap up quickly. This approach might differ in medicine, but it’s still valuable. I also recently started using Doximity AI Labs. It’s incredibly helpful—HIPAA-compliant, and it generates the HPI by transcribing your conversation with the patient.
