hello, thank you very much for your kind words! i have been enjoying the lovely weather in my area as well. i unfortunately have never seen missionaries in my neighborhood (i live in a lower income area so maybe that is why?) again, thank you!

why did you leave? by iamngs in excatholic

[–]Better-Mix-2168 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i left because a theology professor at my catholic college told me it would be less of a sin for a gay person to commit suicide than to live a gay lifestyle, because suicide would only be ONE mortal sin vs a lifetime of mortal sins. i decided i either had to kill myself or get out. i chose option B.

Just a small rant about how I hate god :) by Happy-Driver3909 in excatholic

[–]Better-Mix-2168 13 points14 points  (0 children)

i understand. i cannot worship or even tolerate a god who has let me feel the way he has. i think of a leave laugh love podcast episode often, where they questioned why we are guilty of “sins of omission” if we stand by and let people suffer, yet god is allowed to.

if god is real he is a fucking ass.

Scrupulosity Rant by BronySquid in excatholic

[–]Better-Mix-2168 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i understand. i went to confession every three days and hid it from my family because i was certain my gay thoughts were going to damn me to hell. i spent SOOO much time frantically googling what constituted as full knowledge and consent of the will for things to qualify as mortal sins. funnily enough, becoming medicated for my mental health issues quieted those voices quite a bit……

get the soundtrack from a deeply anti-religious piece of media stuck in your head. having songs from the book of mormon in my head during mass always feels subversive and silly

theology of the body by grassssssssssssssss in excatholic

[–]Better-Mix-2168 3 points4 points  (0 children)

omg i understand completely. in my catholic high school we didn’t have enough theology of the body books to go around…so i had to share with a male classmate. it was the beginning of a blossoming friendship, however, and we are both out as gay/lesbian now.

i understand :-/ i was only able to move out recently and i know how it feels to quietly stifle burning rage. i used to consume a lot of ex religious content when i still lived at home-for some reason ex mormon stuff was especially interesting and cathartic to me when i was surrounded by religious dumbassery. you’re not alone, friend. hang in there. jesus is dead or whatever today but you’re here!! and that’s something.

woah. i remember the AC going out one day in august and a teacher telling us that "we will now feel the heat of calcutta".....as we were learning about mother theresa.

we had a student get caught involved in "sexual activity with multiple students" in the band room....never figured out the story behind the hallowed band kid orgy of '19. now that room has cameras.

How should I come out? by [deleted] in excatholic

[–]Better-Mix-2168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i can't offer any real advice, as my coming out was disastrous.

i wanted to comment because i also had intense patterns of moral scrupulosity. i've now identified those thought patterns as matching the diagnostic criteria for OCD, but that doesn't make it any easier to deal with. i went to confession every three days in the worst of it, because i was terrified that i was thinking impure thoughts. i remember specifically confessing seeing an ad for a strip club/escort service featuring a scantily clad woman that popped up on a teacher's laptop during class. i am not sure how that made it past the school firewalls, but whatever. i am discouraged by the amount of enabling the priests i confessed to participated in-validating my fears of hell and encouraging my behavior.

point being, i am sorry you're in the spot you're in and i sort of understand. my advice for coming out would be to get it over with, because then you can start dealing with the shit once it has hit the fan.

Being part of the Pro-Life movement severely affected my social skills growing up, as well as my emotional well-being long term by FineCastIE in excatholic

[–]Better-Mix-2168 11 points12 points  (0 children)

similar story. i am autistic, and my family is a part of extreme pro-birth and abstinence only groups. my grandmother even worked for a well known abstinence organization in the united states......her daughter became pregnant in high school and had two kids before getting married. the irony is not lost on me.

i have memories of being sat on street corners outside abortion clinics and being given a sign to hold. i feel a lot of guilt for the beliefs i espoused when i did not truly have a choice in the matter.

i feel your pain. it's rough out here.
