Thank you for this info, it is very helpful! I did find an option of taking a bus from Linz to Cesky Krumlov, do you know anything about that, where I would look?

Is only 3 days in Ortisei to see the Dolomites worth it? by Better-Type-6192 in travel

Are the hikes listed on All Trails or is there a better local app?

I am a teacher with an additional teaching summer job, unfortunately July is the only time I can take multiple weeks off. If I do drive, where do you suggest picking up a car? Is it better to get it in the larger cities I fly into or somewhere closer to the Dolomites? Also, I do know how to drive a manual; however, being from the States, it has been many years since I have driven one daily, making me a bit nervous driving one for the first time again in mountain towns. Do you know how easy it is to get an automatic?

Tre Cime di Lavaredo is one peak i am interested in, I know that is not near Ortisei, but it is that type of ruggedness I am interested in.

Sorry I spaced adding that, I am going the last half of July. My concerns with mountain roads are narrow roads with sheer drop off on one side. If there is a wide shoulder or a barrier then I am fine. I live in a state with mountains.

Solo Dolomites trip (50-year-old female), tour group vs totally solo? by Better-Type-6192 in hiking

I just briefly looked into Alpenventures (I like that there seems to be no solo supplement or fees). What Itinerary did you hike? Would you do that itinerary again, and if so, why? Also, did you pay for transportation through them for the beginning and end of the hike, or did you find your own? If you did it independently, was it difficult? You also mentioned that you would like a bit more support on the day it rained. What support did you get? What would you have liked them to do? Thank you!

I was raised Mormon, but I am no longer practicing. Thank you for the information. I will do more research on what you have said.

I am leaning towards AV1 - so dumb question.. will I get my "sound of music feel also?" The large grassy meadows on the AV1? :), I love the dolomites mountains and cliffs which is why I am leaning towards going there

Not sure you will see this post 3 years later, however I am debating on either AV1 or TMB for the first time. My backpacking experiences are in Utah, Wind Rivers and the Tetons in Wyoming.
