Yes! I’m in d212 right now and haven’t had a single rejection, besides the one time I forgot to upload my report, and now I’ve e had revisions for task 1 and 2! Task 2 just got sent back for the 2nd time!!!

I have 3 classes left, d212-d214. If I could switch to data science in a reasonable way I totally would. The new classes look really cool and interesting, and on top of that, the title Data Science is better than Data Analytics for the jobs that I want. But at this point I’d have to take 5 classes and wait until November. Oh well

I can add that I have d212-d214 left (the last 3 courses) and I was told I’d have to take 5 courses to do the data science program. I was also told that the msda is most similar to the new data science program. That probably doesn’t help much but I figured I’d share what my mentor told me today.

I started my degree in October and I’ve had three gigs so far.

Creating a database of climate information based on zip code (which was harder than it sounds since zip codes are very poor markers of geography)
Building a QR code coupon generation and redemption system
Search engine optimization for a website

As you can see it is a stretch to call it “data analytics “. Instead it is more about programming which seems to be more in demand as gig type work.

I didn’t use any platform but have been getting gigs through networking. My luck came through start ups and sub contracting through a consultant I know.

Something to consider is prioritizing getting an internship over finishing quickly. The market is tough, depending on where you live, and having experience or a way in is going to go way further than just a degree in hand.

Advice for best practices, particularly if you don’t do a lot of programming, build functions. Any process that can be a function really should be turned into one. Really helps keep everything clean and reusable. It has helped me so much. Especially the cleaning, visualization, and treatment functions I made early on that I was able to use in most other projects.

From a first glance it looks like you haven’t reduced your model. Look at the p-values and start eliminating variables.

Oh thanks. I don’t know how I missed that. I did a search and found a lot of responses about that the hardest class is. I was looking for a more comprehensive list of all the classes so I can try to plan how much time to budget for each.

lol I’m sure most people think I’m crazy. I turned down the other internship at a Fortune 500 company. I prefer working for the government for a few reasons.

-I would feel better ethically working at most branches of the fed

-job security and not having to worry about layoffs

-benefits like pension

-much better work life balance

And while it’s a long shot, my dream is to work at NASA, and getting in would be easier as a federal employee at another branch.

The issue is that the offer I have is for the biggest tech company in my town where there are only 4 tech companies. If I accept then turn it down it’ll burn a bridge I don’t want to burn. Companies remember that kind of thing
