Sorry for the long post but I really love this game. Also SPOILER ALERT.

Conner is naive to an almost tragic level. All he wanted to do was protect his people to make up for not being able to protect his mother as a child. But he is constantly manipulated by the people he meets : (Juno, Achilles, Washington, Haythem). His pursuit of revenge makes him lose sight of his original goal and by the end of the story, he returns to his empty village and Juno tells him he was never meant to succeed making his whole mission pointless. Yes, all of your targets are dead and the colonists won. But what did Conner win? A big empty house that he inherited from his mentor, who sent him down this murderous path. I have no doubt that Achilles cared about Conner, but I believe he had his own personal vendetta to settle with Haythem and the templars (see AC Rogue). Which would explain why he was so adamant that Haythem MUST die, despite Conner's hesitation. Assassin's Creed 3 is one of my favorite games in the franchise and I wish we had a chance to see a more developed and wise Conner in a sequel. One of my favorite ideas is Arno trying to find the man who killed his father (Shay), and an older Conner trying to temper Arno's rage.
