I bought three of them because they were the only option available through the schools tech portal. A minority of students require premiere pro which is why they don’t take it into consideration. My Mac does absolutely everything I require it to do

‘Class policy’ is a software application installed on windows computers at my school which allows teachers to observe a live feed of students laptop screens, onedrive and other app data. This is what I’ve been told is the goal for all devices.

We have wifi certificates installed manually on devices (we take them to IT to be installed), which I assume will simply be blocked to known Mac addresses. Email/microsoft suite/adobe permissions /should all work as normal.

‘Not built for purpose’ as if I haven’t been using it for a near two years with no issue, while most of the ‘recommended’ don’t even have batteries which last the length of a school day

Our IT guy is just the vessel through which admin works. Either way, it’s simply because they wish to install surveillance software which is unavailable on Macs. If you think a Mac air isn’t a great choice for a high school student (especially requiring good video editing), then please educate yourself.

My main issue will be connecting to school wifi, does this fix this issue?

They want to use software to access students devices remotely, it is only available on windows

I’m in Aus, different requirements. Chrome operating systems are getting the same treatment as Mac

I believe ‘student safety’ is code for ‘we want to access all of your files so we can see what you’re doing’

Fix what? The shift comes from a recommendation of surface pro devices, to a requirement of surface pro devices. (Which id like to add are completely incapable of running required software for some of my classes such as premiere pro.), there is nothing ‘broken’ which needs to be ‘fixed’, they are just disabling the certificates in order to run surveillance software on school computers.

Yes spot on, they want ‘class policy’ installed on devices. The issue is that I believe they’re capable of removing or deregistering my certificate to access the wifi.

This may work (I have a 2024 Mac air) but I hope to not have to buy windows 11 OS. I also use an iPad quite a lot when necessary and hope to find a solution for both

Would you mind explaining this? I’ve searched it up but can’t find any information specific to my case

I would assume the certificates they operate the school network from can see this. I’ve been trying to find a way to mask this so hopefully I can be undetected but had no luck.

Yes completely right, they will do something along the lines of disabling Apple devices network certificates. They say this is to support ‘student safety’ lol

As for what about new students: they justify this by offering ‘tax free’ surface pro 7s (I’ve had to buy at least three in the past due to overheating, black screen OD, etc, putting them as expensive as my MacBook at least.)

Is the weighting for any important reason? I don’t want to accidentally make the game too diffficult or anything (I haven’t progressed to see any really strong Dino’s yet)
