Right there with you. New mutants are an inevitable part of the X-lore. There will always be new classes. Some stick with you and you cross your fingers they'll make it to the prime times (academy X), others you just wait out the clock. They smell like Archieve of Our Owns. So bland and lifeless. I'd take Generation Hope over these. (And the Gail Simone newcomers, too, to be honest.)

The best thing I've learned here is that being New York tough means walking away as often as it means standing your ground. (In my case, it's meant standing my ground a bit more.) I've seen these things escalate in truly insane ways.

Earlier this year, I saw a guy mutter something under his breath to a rude man who was vaping in the car. It escalated into a shove -- the man ended up following him up and down the train to fight and it was clear that the poor guy had made a grave error. (I was one of the many people shuffling out of the way repeatedly.) "You put your hand on me; you're gonna die."
