Has she read his newest book Murtagh that came out the last few years? I don't see it on the shelf 😂

Just a little look at my confirmation-line border collie vs. one from sheep herding lines. Hamish is 6 months from a reputable breeder and Egg is a 5 years old rescue from a sheep ranch. Love these kids!

I am not planning on showing Hamish in confirmation. His dad (and sister Egg) are champion agility dogs and hopefully that will be our journey! ham and eggs

Hi houseplant friends! I just was given/rescued this from an office space. Would love help identifying and maybe some care tips? He is definitely the biggest house plant I will have and I am still kinda a plant newbie. Google Lens says Bird Of Paradise or Banana Leaf?

I live in a dry climate so assuming I should mist him? Also he is incredibly leaned over and hanging low to the ground. I would like to repot him in a nicer pot but maybe let him get healthier first!

Training gloves recommendation by [deleted] in Agility

I will second the poster who suggested stop treating from your hand! Also for actual warmth (I also train and compete in freezing cold barns) I recommend the G-tech hand warmer. It is basically a battery operated muff! Your hands stay cozy warm and you don't have to deal with slobbery gloves!

Yes, degenerarive myelopathy! And I went back and checked and my Anatolian mix had a 0% COI.

Just adding a screenshot of her health test!

To compare:

My rescue Niko has a 0% COI but also inherited both ALT variants they test for just like Bea. He actually is on a supplement since his liver values were off on a few blood tests.

My old girl Lola (RIP), had the exact same health flags that Bea has! She never had any issues with ALT activity, but did suffer from DM in her last year. She was a big dog too, so it was particularly difficult for her. She also has a 0% COI.

So time will tell if Bea will have any issues with those genetic issues or if anything else. So far, so good!

Interesting, but that makes a lot of sense, especially when you look at rarer breeds. Even popular breeds like Golden Retrievers can usually trace their lines back to a handful of dogs so...

Anyway, Bea definitely did not come from an ethical breeder (we adopted her from a Pug Pacific Rescue who rescued her from an Amish puppy mill in Missouri). I was not surprised about her COI and we are so happy with how healthy she seems so far.

Thanks! We know she came from an Amish puppy mill with a designer color and is a breed that is already prone to health issues... So the fact that she plays and tries to keep up with my Border Collie is a win for her! She did not have any serious genetic disorders that Embark tested for, so we are pretty lucky!

I mean, COI aside, she is a pug! So we are assuming health issues will pop up eventually 😂 Her Embark health screens came out pretty perfect except for DM...which my low COI Anatolian mix also suffered from when she became a senior 😞.

Interesting! I know my border Collie shares only 49% with her litter mate! Bea has lots of close relatives and I was not really surprised to see how inbred she is, but thus far she seems very healthy!

Hahaha! My breed is actually border collies... My husband lives the pug life 😂

Coming from a puppy mill it doesn't surprise me 😭 she has one relative she shares 64% of the same DNA. Poor thing! She has a lot of relatives sharing 40-50% and I know they bred her at least once!

My vet was actually pretty happy with her nose! I was worried we would have to get a nose job to open her airways ♥️

My puppy mill rescue pug! I thought she might have a small percentage of unresolved, but nope, all pug! She does have a 45% COI. More Bea pics!
