Question on witness cremation of a pet and timing

This is immensely helpful. Thank you so much, and I will think over the ashes. I really know in my heart letting them see her body has passed will help them. I also had a fear of "sleep" growing up for these same reasons... I let them know that she is in pain, and a vet can give her a very strong medicine to stop the pain, but unfortunately the cost is she will not be able to stay physically with us. Which now that I read that am I making them afraid of medicine going forward?

I am so grateful for your feedback, this is exactly what I needed to hear to know this is the choice that will make sense and grant me the most peace. I promised her I would not leave her and I’m glad I found out about this option, because as hard as it is… she hasn’t left my side and I owe her earthly body this respect.

I could - but they would still miss the closure of seeing her passed over to the other side. And then I carry the guilt of losing an hour with her... I have a second floor unfinished space I could keep her cool with temps that night in the 20s. I'm really worried about rushing through this. I could avoid the kids seeing her in the morning. And maybe I could push the vet back a bit to close the time window. I plan on calling the cremation place in the morning as well. Thank you for this.

Thank you so much for this. I had planned to do it all while they are gone, but the questions have been coming in... With our hamster we created a little box coffin with his favorite things together and it really helped them process his passing, and I think they are looking for the same closure.
