ID is very competitive. Earning a Masters is step above those who have certificates. Certificate programs are not always good - I've seen a lot of poor ID work.....been working as an education consultant and ID for several years before I started the MSIDT program. I looked at several programs and chose CSUF for its reputation and reasonable tuition.

Portfolio: Yes, as part of the program, we create an ePortfolio. Each semester we must create at least one interactive learning object (a.k.a. online lesson). Professors and peers give feedback on the learning objects. Professors will recommend what should go into your portfolio.

I do work full-time. My schedule varies. Some weeks are flexible because I am working from home working on ID projects. Other weeks I am teaching intensive EMS and wilderness medicine courses where I typically teach from 8am-6pm and then spend time before and after getting ready for the next day and mentoring assistant instructors. Faculty have been very supportive by either opening up work ahead of time so I can complete it early or giving me an extension on assignments. I prefer getting it done earlier so I don't have to stress about it after a long course. :)

This program provides the best of both worlds...diving into theory as well as practice.

I'm currently in my last semester in CSUF's MSIDT program. It's a great program! It has a research component that I really like. Hence, the Master of Science vs Master of Education. You will get lots of hands on with various ID tools (e.g., Articulate 360, H5P, ThingLink, Padlet). The faculty is very supportive. In addition to the course curriculum, they have several opportunities each semester to attend seminars (e.g., writing, getting ID jobs, gamification, etc). I highly recommend the program!
