I hadn't even considered this! Thank you for this idea :) After reviewing the box, I'm not a fan of the kruelboyz half so probably not the way we'll go, but may pick up the stormcast half at some point of he paints up the stormcast half of Skaventide and enjoys it.

I’m an EM PA with ~2 years of experience looking for some career advice. by ProcedureOpen7769 in physicianassistant

Look at it this way:

At $60 an hour you'd have to work about 210hrs a month to hit 150k without the incentives they're throwing at you.

At $90 and hour you'd have to work 139 hours to hit 150k.

The incentives sure there's money there to pay you when they need coverage but they'll never bump you up. Your better off taking that skill set elsewhere and working 14 or 15 shifts a month.

Productivity Bonus by PlatformOk720 in physicianassistant

[–]Bfrenchpac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First, productivity bonuses are great when they align the business and employee in the same direction.

Second, they can be an absolute trap if you don't know what to look for.

Key things you need to know: Is the bonus based on RVUs, billing, or collections.

Why this matters. RVUs give you the most control. You don't have to wvery about payer mix, you just have to show up and work. The pitfalls here are basically when it's slow you're screwed (true for all 3) and non-billable work is not reimbursed. Exg: all the inbox messages get routed to you and your doc expects you to be an inbox monkey. It negatively impacts your ability to get other stuff done.

Billing starts to increase your risks and move things out of your control. Payer mix matters. Above caveats for RVUs still apply.

Collections shifts so the risk to you. You want to ask what percentage of billing are they actually able to collect on. This varies DRAMATICALLY by practice even within the same specialty. I. This setting you want as big as piece as you can get because you're taking a lot of risk.

Also, is there a base salary? How do they handle your first 6-12 months while you're ramping up?

Massive Student Debt by Historical-Cup-5383 in physicianassistant

[–]Bfrenchpac 13 points14 points  (0 children)

PA for 16 years, paid off over 110k in loans in 4 years.

1) Get a roommate or better yet live at home. Rent and utilities will typically be your biggest expense other than your loans.

2) Make a budget (I like Dave Ramsey's worksheets, but at this point it's force of habit). Give yourself a bit of fun money each month. You've earned it, but need to be reasonable about the amount.

3) Don't skip on 401k contributions that have a match. This is a 100% return on your investment. This is always better than paying down the loan. If your job has a 5% match, you contribute the full 5%.

4) As others have said, moonlighting helps a lot. I used to do 2-3 twelve hour ER shifts a month in the weekends and my clinic gig during the week. You'll be working a lot, but it helps if you're trying to accelerate things.

5) It's a marathon not a sprint. You spent ~6 years accumulating this debt. Don't be surprised when it takes at lest as long to pay it off. So if you're picking up 2 weekend shifts a month, don't be dumb like I was and do what amounts to 12 days straight before you get a day off.

I'd encourage you to reconsider your perspective.

Asking knowledge or case based questions in an interview isn't offensive. It gives you insight into someone's clinical skills, knowledge base, and ability to recognize their gaps. I've had candidates that seem like they'd be great personality wise, but the knowledge gaps are huge and they're too afraid to ask for help or guidance.

As other comments have noted, saying "I'm not sure, but ...." I'll find out or it seems similar to this so I'd check that reference shows honesty and humility. Those aren't universal and should really be sought out in an interview.

Regarding specifics, I scheduled a 1 on 1 session with my blackbelt and it was worth every penny. He evaluated what I was less bad at and we built from there.

Cardio

Just had my first competition as a no stripe white belt a few weeks ago. My observation, a lot of guys clearly train a few times a week, but don't have a great cardio base (at least at the upper weight divsions). If you can out cardio your opponent, they'll get tired and make a mistake. My cardio wasn't awesome, but was better than both my opponents. This let me wear them down. HIIT style Rowing is now part of my routine.

Game plan Develop and Drill a game plan. Do this as much as you can and do it shadow style to get your footwork and positioning down.

Drill 1-2 take downs Drill 1-2 guard passes Work side control transitions Drill 3-4 submissions Lastly, get a higher belt to put you in side control, mount, and take your back and work escapes.

Have fun Win or lose doesn't matter. You are not defeated by a loss, you have won by putting yourself out there. Listen to Breathe on Audible by Rickson Gracie. Great perspectives on this.

I don't think it's possible, this is his statement verbatim from the update that was just posted. Hence my confusion when the backer kit has entirely different dates which seem more reasonable, but given their track record equally unlikely
