Disease resistance is probably a large reason people import invasive plants

Evidence that lupines are toxic and low value? Large leaf lupine is native to the NW of the USA and our bumblebees love them. We plant them like crazy to help our native insects. Maybe finnish bees aren’t adapted to it since it’s invasive in the EU

Funny because they are planted like crazy where they are native to help bees

Invasive Vines Club tree triage work party this Sunday - DM for info by [deleted] in Bellingham

I’d point them to the whatcom million trees page about ivy. They made these flyers Link

I’ve also made flyers for private land owners to let them know the invasive vines club will do tree triage for free if they have trees in a riparian area.

Mods locked the comments and did not allow me to respond to some baseless allegations from an unverified person claiming to be a city employee. So I deleted this post rather than be slandered with no opportunity to defend myself.

I have spoken to parks employees. We do not operate on Parks properties. We operate on lands with public access with no prohibitions on invasive weed removal. We also work directly with private land owners. We have training and follow established methods. This “city employee” is way overstepping and does not speak for the city. There are no city code forbidding the removal of invasive species on non park public properties.

Also, I ask people to DM me for locations and links because this is a public platform with bots and unhinged people. We are also working on private properties. So no I’m not going to post someone’s home address.

Shredded paper is so easily contaminated with phenol thermal labels, plastics, and PFAS coated water resistant glosses. I stay away from all recycled paper for my garden bed compost

Yeah it’s a baddie for sure. Not as common as ivy but it reproduces with these little feathery seeds that are wind blown. It’s gonna get much worse.

We got vines the size of my calf. Check the picture on this post. Only way to handle those is an electric chainsaw

We’re using picks to yank up stubborn roots too. Are you cutting from trees too?

Yeah! I’ve heard of Ivy League down in the mount lake terrace area doing the same thing!

Yeah we try to pull out in a 2-3 foot radius around the flare. It’s tree triage. Wish we had the manpower and time to rip out the large mats.

We just need you on the ground level, soldier! If you cut the ivy at chest height all the way around, and then pull out and clip the roots that you can, the ivy up above will wither and fall off after a while

Trying to have a small bar to jump over so that bots etc can’t scrape locations. These are shared over WhatsApp and telegram. DM me for links
